Unranked NC State looking like the better team in set 2.

Same. Thanks for the reminder.

And they are.

Officials having a pretty bad day. Challenges getting upheld left and right.

Service errors. Stanford five, NC State eight.

Well, so far, it looks like one of the things we learned is that writing off Kurt maybe isn’t the best idea.

UNC beats #7 SMU in  5 sets. Texas currently down 0-2 to A&M. Nebraska playing Wisconsin tonight too.

Agreed Kurt has had a great game tonight. Rubin has had some moments of struggle.

Seems like I’ve seen this a lot this season. It looks to me like Stanford is just in a lot better physical condition than other teams. When they get to the 4th set they can really pour it on.

Also, this is one of the worst net judges I’ve ever seen. Blatant fingertips getting called no touch.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - BostonCard - 10-31-2025

Yeah, on a day when Harvey (0.100) and Rubin (0.128) were struggling, Kürt (team high 16 kills, .382) and the middles (as usual) saved our bacon.

Goes to show that as much as we might chafe at the idea of holding Blyashov out half the time, there might be something to the strategy.  Barring a transfer in or out, they are both going to be starting next year; plus they have both improved over the course of the season, so it is really hard to fault the admittedly unconventional strategy.

Just saw that previously undefeated Texas lost 3-2 to Texas A&M.

And #6 ASU took their first Big XII loss to Iowa State.

And #7 SMU lost to UNC.

Tonight was upset galore! Luckily Stanford didn’t join the party. Here are the other upsets:

Arizona over #13 TCU 3-0
Missouri over #16 Tennessee 3-1
Michigan over #19 Penn State 3-2
#23 Colorado over #18 Baylor 3-1

On Wednesday, unranked UCF defeated #17 BYU 3-1. Unranked Iowa St. defeated #18 Baylor 3-0. What a week for Iowa St.

Nitpick: it's good being careful to include the diacritical marks in players' names, but I'm pretty sure Kurt doesn't have one in her surname. Web sources I can find spell her full name İpar Özay Kurt.

Wilkipedia, for instance:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%B0par_%C3%96zay_Kurt

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - paloalto - 11-01-2025

I'm just seeing those upset reports now.  That's wild.  Actually Texas losing was not in Stanford's interest.  If Stanford wins tomorrow they are pretty much guaranteed to stay at #5 in the AVCA poll.

On occasion Stanford will block a ball. Hambly looks unfazed by it.

Tip: on Apple touch screen devices, a long press on a letter brings up a context menu with variants including the most common diacriticals. Apologies to those who already know this.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - Hieronymus - 11-01-2025

At this point it seems likely that for the rest of the season:
1. Parks is the main setter. Yu may come in on a spot basis if Parks is off.
2. Blyashov and Kurt continue to split time. However, I think there may be a clear 1A where Blyashov is starting the tougher matches. We will see who plays vs. NC, SMU, Pitt and UL.
3. Blyashov is expected to go 6 rotations and we will see very little Pringle when JB starts, while Kurt goes 3 and Pringle does play.
4. Pringle remains the preferred DS. Kirsch as serving specialist.

Some of that is based on recent patterns but limited data. We will see how accurate I am.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - CompSci87 - 11-02-2025

That all seems right to me.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 11-02-2025

Kurt has been 6 more and more

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - paloalto - 11-02-2025

Stanford wins set 1 against a WF team playing poorly.

I believe Blyashov got a kill at the back row.  With the windows in this high school type gym, it makes viewing difficult.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - CompSci87 - 11-02-2025

Yes, Blyashov had a nice kill out of the back row. She also served 3 consecutive aces at one point.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - paloalto - 11-02-2025

Parks setting location is horrible.  Just horrible, horrible, horrible.  The hitters have no idea where the set will be. Stanford's hitting percentage the first set was amazing considering the setting.  Just imagine what the pin players could do with decent setting.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - TonyLima - 11-02-2025

The curse of set two: will it strike again?

Thank you. That explains a lot.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - paloalto - 11-02-2025

WF team goes into a funk in the middle of set 2, thankfully.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - TonyLima - 11-02-2025

Get the ball to Lizzy!
