Tyler Maro just committed to Iowa State.

RE: Class of 2021 - SamuelMcF - 12-12-2020

6 admits going elsewhere and counting.

Do you think Shaw sees this as a flashing red light that indicates he must make significant changes in his program?

Do you think he knows the 2021 class would be weak, this is a blip and will change nothing?

Do you think he will make some changes because though it might be a blip, losing 6 admits is not to be ignored?

Does anyone have any statistics on how rare this is?  If memory serves, this almost never happened for years.

RE: Class of 2021 - SamuelMcF - 12-12-2020

@OF, I would say putting out 55 offers for 2022 before the new year (a point at which the next closest, 2020, had 39 offers out after a 10-offer blitz right around this time) definitely qualifies as making a change. Offering 3 QBs simultaneously definitely qualifies as making a change. Re '21, I really believe not having most of these guys visit hurt us a lot. The visit sells players. But this level of recruiting performance despite that is downright unacceptable. One bright spot is it appears we will continue to use a well-honed virtual visit (which has been getting very good reviews) as a recruiting tool in the future.

@Mick, we've never seen this before under Shaw. The most admits going elsewhere in a class before this year? ONE.

@VB Card, it appears there is another plan B OL in the wings just in case.

If Armitage doesn't stick, it would be 7, yes?

RE: Class of 2021 - SamuelMcF - 12-12-2020

Armitage would make 7. I suspect (but am not sure) Drew Kendall has been admitted, which would make 8 should he commit elsewhere.

My count of 6 includes OL Andrew Leingang (K State), but I'm not 100% sure he was admitted. I think he was, though.

Josh Moore recommitting to us would bring the number down by 1, of course.

Two walk ons committed. Here’s today’s

Here is the "backup plan B" OL to Kendall and Uke I was referring to. Amsler has a 4.6 GPA and a perfect 36 ACT, and 5 P5 offers (Indiana, Mizzou, Maryland, Vandy, Kansas).

If he's a PWO, it's easily the best PWO profile we've ever had under Shaw.

EDIT: Confirmed. He's a PWO. Wow.

Third PWO (running back from Minnesota)

Early admissions decisions became known on Friday. Roughly sixty admissions spots opened up from the 11 cut varsity sports. It looks like football snagged a few of them to add more walk-ons.

Not really. We get this many every year.

In December??

RE: Class of 2021 - BostonCard - 12-13-2020

I don't think those spots are "allocated" to athletics.  In fact, one of the reasons that was given for cutting the sports is for athletes to make up a smaller share of the freshman class each year (of course, that could also have been done by expanding the size of the freshman class).

Yes, it is true that there are a lot less spots allocated to athletics in the Class of 21 due to the 11 cut sports, but it isn't necessarily a one for one cut so there are more spots available for the remaining teams. Bernard Muir said as much in a Zoom call a few weeks ago.  Those sports were cut in part to make the 25 remaining sports a higher priority.

Armitage was the first to sign!  Glad we don't have to sweat him switching to USC.

Josh Moore signed with UCLA. What a weird recruitment that was. The number remains 6 for now.
