A different ranking puts Stanford at #7:

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 02-23-2023

Beach will play 2 today. First Stephen F Austin at 12:15 our time then Host Hawaii

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-23-2023

Stanford's line-up vs. SFA:

#1 Ekstrom/Reilly
#2 Harvey/Kriz
#3 Morris/Wilson
#4 Vincent/Belardi
#5 Sharp/Kubiak

Vincent, Belardi and Kubiak are freshmen.  Where's Xolani Hodel?  Resting for the later match?  (Hope she's not injured.) Maybe giving the frosh some experience.

ETA: Beach's tweet shows Clarke/Gusarova (freshmen) are playing the exhibition match at #6.
Stanford wins points at 1, 2, 4, 5.  3s are going to a third set.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 02-23-2023

Good to start out with a match you know you'll win.  Freshmen have a chance to get acclimated to the college experience.  Also good to not schedule a tournament at Stanford this weekend.  The match against Hawaii will give an early indication where things stand with this season's Stanford team

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-23-2023

Basically the same line-up vs. Hawaii, except Gusarova playing instead of Sharp at the 5s.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-23-2023

Stanford pulls out the 3-2 win over Hawaii.

It was tied 2-2 and came down to the three 3s, who went three sets again.  This time Morris/Wilson prevailed, 15-12.

Tomorrow #1 UCLA and SMC.

It was a really exciting finish!
And Ekstrom/Reilly were dominant in set 2.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-23-2023

Note the Stanford schedule has the wrong time for tomorrow's match against UCLA.
I believe it is 10:15am Hawaii time, so 12:15 PST.  That's according to Hawaii's website:

Yes, the article above from gostanford.com has the correct 10:15am HT info. 8:15am HT would've been a bit much.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-23-2023

Xolani Hodel just posted an IG story from the Stanford beach courts, showing Camdyn Doucet and Ellie Gamberdella.
So at least a few of them did not make the trip to Hawaii.

And Stanford has corrected its schedule.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-24-2023

Stanford vs. UCLA has started.  Sharp is back on the 5s, and our Swede, Line Andersson is playing with Wilson at the 3s.
Not looking good for Stanford so far.   The 4s are up 11-10 in the first set, but everyone else is trailing.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 02-24-2023

Belardi/Vincent is going to be Stanford's winningest team this season.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 02-24-2023

Well I think who with a healthy Hodel will be the winningest team but we shall see

Ucla beats Stanford now 3-1. Has to chance to end 3-2,

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-24-2023

Yep, the 2s won 2-1.
Losing 2-3 is a respectable showing against #1 UCLA.

It will be an interesting season.  Hope Hodel is back soon.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 02-24-2023

It ends 3-2 ucla but yes a very good showing

Our 1s didn’t play as well today—multiple unforced errors (missed serves, mishandled sets, etc). Tough to beat #1 while giving away points. They will be better next time!

So you are there watching?

Same line up for SMC.  Belardi & Vincent are up 19-2 in the first set!
ETA:  OK, not sure I believe the live stats.  Now it says 22-2, which doesn't compute.

Belardi & Vincent get the first point 21-2, 21-13.  Kubiak & Sharp follow with 21-10, 21-10.

Stanford wins 4-1 (3s lose again).  Belardi and Vincent are 4-0.  Wonder if they will move up to the 3s?

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - JJJ - 02-24-2023

I was there yesterday and this morning, but had to leave before St Mary’s match.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-24-2023

I'm guessing tomorrow SFA will play SMC in the quarterfinal at 9am, followed by Stanford vs. Hawaii at 10:15 (HT; 12:15 PST) in the first semifinal.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - JJJ - 02-25-2023

Unfortunately can’t be there due to work. Missing local girl Phoenix Clarke getting a start.
