Wow. I was so busy jumping up and down I missed that. Heck of a save by the outfielder.

Kind of a Pyrrhic victory though (and though hard to tell, I don’t think it would have gone over).

To be clear, I was referring to the outfielder’s play. He may have “saved a homer” (though I’m not sure it was going over), but since the winning run still scored, it didn’t do much.

Feb 28 Fresno State at Stanford. Everything that’s wrong with the Stanford team and encapsulated in the top of the fourth.

According to their FB post, Stanford hosted Waseda’s first game on US soil in 1905!?!?
Waseda and Keio have had a long-standing rivalry, and I see more of a similarity (school vibe wise) between us and Keio (where we’ve had a long exchange program), but that’s neither here nor there.

9 once said that pitching and defense win championships. Early in the season, still looking for signs of hope.

Through 5, it’s 11-5 Fresno State, ergo the concerns about pitching (12 hits, 11 earned runs in 6 1/3).

Stanford starting pitching has been notably poor so far this season. No starting pitcher has won a game yet. (I hope the anti-woofing gods are listening)
