Blandino having a great spring so far. He has almost no chance to make the Giants 28 man opening day roster. But he could put himself in a position to be picked up.

Former first round pick Darquez Dennard signed with the 49ers as a CB. Kerry Hyder re-signed for a one year, $1.5 mms. deal. Jeff Wilson, RB, also re-signed. The 49ers signed All Pro special teams player George Odum to a 3 year, $10.95 mms. deal. 49ers currently have 63 signed players, as follows by position:

Five former 49er players that are still free agents: Jaquiski Tartt, Carlos Hyde, Emmanuel Sanders, and our friends Richard Sherman and Solomon Thomas. Garoppolo will probably end up with the Texans, Panthers, Seahawks, Falcons or Saints.
Niners have just over $2 million in available cap space, and they have some needs. Niners are still weak at both OGs, apparently they think McGlinchey will return just fine. They could use a young pass rusher, and a TE better at receiving passes. Curious to see if Sermon and Banks finally contribute. Another safety.
I think the Giants are done making deal. There's only seven unsigned free agents that Fangraphs are projecting to be worth 0.5 WAR or better (Conforto, Brett Anderson, Archer, Cueto, Happ, Jed Lowrie and Brett Gardner.
Giants avoided arbitration with Casali. They cut four players from the camp, but are still on the 40 man roster, including Jaylin Davis, Yunior Marte, Randy Rodriguez, and Gregory Santos.
13 days to Opening Day.

Niners actually have 71 signed players and can bring 90 to training camp.

I read that Pro Football Focus graded out Thomas as the worst run defender of all interior lineman in the league. Still, he improved his pass rushing metrics. He' played 48% of the Raiders' snaps, and was 4th on the team with 3.5 sacks and 12 passer knockdowns.

Interesting article in Forbes regarding MLB team values and revenue. Yankees are No1 now topping $6 billion. Giants 5th at $3.5 billion. Dodgers second at $4 billion
Giants operating income from ‘21 was about $30 million. Yankees “lost” about $95 million; while at the same time their value increased from about $5.2 Billion to over $6 billion. MLB revenue losses for ‘20 and ‘21 were around $1.5 billion.
Largest increase in value is the Texas Rangers. In part cause they now get the benefit of their new park. Which had its debut season in 2020. (This may explain why the Rangers now have a $500,000,000 double play combo.)
The CBA includes two new revenue enhancers. Teams will be allowed to have patches on their players jerseys. The revenue from this go to the team. Which will make the big market “rich teams” richer and is one reason the Yankees value went over $6 billion. (Only franchise in American sports worth more is the Cowboys at $6.5 billion.)
They also will have helmet decals. That revenue will be shared by the teams.
So, Giants now worth over $ 4 billion. They made revenue last year, while others lost revenue (including the Dodgers). Yet their payroll at last check was 13th. Decidedly “mid-market”. I want Congress to be fiscally responsible. I want ownership of the Giants to spend like drunken sailors on steroids - in other words, like the Dodgers.

I noticed that. Also noticed that the SF Giants are 3-7 in spring training, said record positioning them 13th of 15 in the Cactus League.
Giants team OPS is #15 of 30. #11 in HRs, #3 in triples, #11 in doubles. #26 in walks putting them at #23 in OBP.
Giants team pitching is worse. #23 in ERA, #27 in WHIP.
On the good news front, the following players have 1.000+ OPS: Yastrzemski, Casali, Late Night LaMonte Wade, Matheny, Blandino, Gigliotti, Toffey, Smith, Ramos, Estrada, McCray, Bailey, Tostado, Wilson. Auerbach at .967, Bart at .875. Crawford is 0 for 7, Bishop is 0 for 5, Matos is 1 for 7, heralded Joc Pederson is 1 for 8, Austin Slater has 2 singles in 12 ABs - if memory serves, Austin is a slow starter. Vosler is 1 for 10, Luciano is 1 for 7, Ruf is 2 for 9, Duggar is 1 for 11.

There is ample time to release Jimmy before the season starts.

They're trying to lure teams to bid something . . . anything . . . in a trade for the guy. If they say "Yeah, he's gonzo for sure," well, why would a team offer up anything?

In the NFL, there is a good reason that this time of year is referred to as the “Lying Season”. Between the beginning of free agency through the draft, no one publicly tells the truth.
Odds are still good the Garappolo is not on the Niners roster in September.

Belt also - recurring knee inflammation. Given the age of the Giants lineup one has to anticipate an above-average number of games lost to injury this year. Zaidi is excellent at finding adequate backups, but it would be overly optimistic to expect this aging group of starters to get through the season unscathed.

Remember 2011? Great pitching. Awful hitting. Buster injury Led to the Wheeler-Beltran trade. Turned out badly. But was a legitimate risk at the time. Unfortunately, Beltran got hurt.
Pitching should be very good this year. If the staff says relatively healthy. Offensively, this team could be flat out bad.

Gamboa had his third home run of the spring today. Would be nice to have a player named Archimedes on the field...and Blandino hit a home run.
Slater started at leadoff, went 2 for 4 with a run scored, no strikeouts.
