We are NOT a good defensive team.  How much of this is scheme and how much is talent is hard to see at this point.  At one point I thought Haase was a good hire, now he has proved himself a disaster.  We cleaned house in Football, time to clean house in Basketball.

Agreed on defense.  Most of the previous few seasons when we struggled on offense, we played pretty good defense--arguably elite defense for a couple of seasons. Lately our defense has been pretty bad.  

I watched the first half of the game last night (not worth staying up past my usual bedtime for a team going nowhere).  Against the best three-point shooting team in the P-10, Haase had us constantly sagging off of perimeter players.  That led to a bunch of open shots.  That strategy is fine against a bad shooting team, but you can't lay off of good shooters.

Fingers crossed we're down to our last 5 game with Haase as coach.  Then they can promote Haase to AD, promote Muir to university president (at least he hasn't committed scientific fraud), and hire a good MBB coach.

Last 5 implies we win our first Pac-12 tournament game, as there are only 3 games left in the regular season. Personally my fingers are crossed we're down to our last 4.

I said 5 because I wouldn't be surprised if we beat a mediocre team in round 1 in Vegas.  It happened last year (followed up by a very close game against Arizona).  But 4 is possible, too.

These late season slides are so depressing.  You get a little hope up, even this year when we had a 5-game win streak and then beat Arizona, and then...rug pull.

True.  But the effect is magnified after a few weeks of good play make you think that the season will end on a positive note.

16-10 good guys as we make treys but also 5 TO in 8.5minutes. Gotta cut down on those.

Hmm. I was there and thought MOC was shaky. Don't get me wrong, the stats are nice and he's as sure-handed as we have, but he struggled to get the ball upcourt against constant pressure and was often slightly out of control. Seems like he has totally lost confidence in his shot too, judging on his passing up several wide-open looks from 3. And his penetration continues to be poor. I'd have to watch film (which I'm not going to do) on those 12 assists, but swinging the ball around the perimeter to the guy that ends up scoring is how I remember a bunch of his assists and those are cheapies imo. Still, I like MOC well enough and he's the best we got at that position. 

Anyway, it was a good win. Like most every time I'm at Maples, I look at this team and can't figure out how it's not a NCAA Tournament team given the talent that it has. Of course, like literally every time, I blame Haase's incompetence!

MOC is not a scorer except for one rather amazing outing and he can't really break his man down off the dribble and take the ball to the hoop.  When the flow of the game gives him a path he takes it, but the way the game started he didn't need to shoot or score, he simply needed to take care of the ball relatively well, which is the best he can do usually, and get the ball to an open man.  He did those things well. 
We don't have a point guard in the mold of Brevin or Hernandez or anyone like them.  I thought Isa might be someone like that but he is prone to take the ball into places he can't get out of and then throw the ball away.   
All of our guys seem to make brain dead, telegraphed passes now and then.  Last night it didn't make too much of a difference when we did make a few of those. We played good defense although we got a way with a lot of bad mismatches as the result of our incessant switching.  We moved the ball well, didn't end up having to make a bunch of desperation shots as the clock ran out and handled the press about as well as we can handle a press.
My point was last night MOC did what he needed to do and didn't try and be someone he is not, a driver or a scorer.  He is best when the shots are falling for our scorers and we move the ball and play unselfish basketball.

These are hallmarks of Haaseketball.  The drive into a thicket of defenders is something that has been going on for years.  Ditto  inattentive passing at the top of the key (with minimal defensive pressure) ending up in the hands of a defender.

Fingers crossed that our next home game will feature a new coach.

MOC had 12 As and only 3TOs. That is a good game for a PG. UW tried to press but got only 14 TOs from us (and at least 3 of those were awful unforced errors). And MOC's aggressive fast pace produced a lot of nice open shots. He was too aggressive on a few occasions, and should just forget about trying full speed behind the back dribbling near multiple defenders. Ingram had 6 As, mostly after penetrating into the key, which was nice to see.
Biggest crowd of the season, except maybe at the UA game (which was 40% UA fans)?

Not that I would've picked us to win considering Haaseketball, but I found it interesting that despite having a clearly worse conference record than UW we were actually significantly favored by Vegas (-6.5!) last night.

I've been surprised by many of the lines this year.  The punters seem to have a higher opinion of our basketball team than we do, or than seems to be warranted most of the time.

Yes, punters, as well as kickers, can be so quirky. I'm guessing that quarterbacks and linemen are more analytical and don't have as high an opinion of our team.
