You are correct Eric

RE: Sports trivia thread 2023 - Mick - 09-13-2023

This weekend, an NFL first is about to happen at Sofi Stadium.

What is it?

Gotta be the QBs, right?  Purdy, as an NFL draft LAST pick in 2022, vs Stafford, an overall FIRST pick in 2009, is the first meeting of a Mr Irrelevant vs a #1 pick.  That will happen a few more times if Purdy remains the 49ers starter but I believe this is a first.

I'm surprised it didn't happen last year but a quick look at last year's schedule seems to show otherwise. For instance, Kyler Murray (#1 pick in 2018) didn't start in the Arizona/SF meeting on Jan 8, 2023.

Aside from the Niners wearing their home jerseys and having significantly more fans attending the game?

You are correct! First time a #1 pick has started against Mr. Irrelevant.

There's only been six other QBs even selected as Mr. Irrelevant, and four of them never played an NFL snap. Chad Kelly (Jim Kelly's nephew) took a knee on his single snap in the NFL. No other Mr. Irrelevant other than Purdy have even played.

1) George Haffner, (Colts, 1965)
2) Randy Essington (Raiders, 1984)
3) Larry Wanke (Giants, 1991)
4) Ronnie McAda (Packers, 1999)
5) Chandler Harnish (Colts, 2012)
6) Chad Kelly (Broncos, 2017)

the first three are a lot more irrevelant, 1984 and 1991 drafts had 12 rounds, 1965 had 20 rounds in each of the NFL and AFL drafts

In the 120 year history of the World Series, name all the teams that have won more than two in a row.

(Hint: it's a very short list)

RE: Sports trivia thread 2023 - BobK - 09-13-2023

Yankees
A’s
Braves

RE: Sports trivia thread 2023 - Mick - 09-13-2023

Unless I'm missing one, just the A's in 70's and the Yankees a few times.

Oops, misread question - answer withdrawn….

Heck you changed the question lol

RE: Sports trivia thread 2023 - Giants - 09-14-2023

Bailey is in the mix to win a Gold Glove this year.  If so, he would become only the third NL rookie to win the award.  Who are the other two?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2023 - BobK - 09-14-2023

Fisk
Bench

Fisk won as an AL rookie.

Bench is correct.  The other NL guy won in 1995.

Didn't Brandon Donovan win a Gold Glove last year, his rookie season?

Oops, I should have written “third NL rookie catcher”.  Yes, Donovan did win a GG but not as a catcher.

All of them? A quick glance showed two Boog Powell's, one signed by A's the other by the O's.

All of them is correct! Quite an assortment of talent.
