Less than 1% (.0062%) of the season is in the books. It might be a tad early to make any assessments. As far as this series is concerned, I am interested in seeing how Harrison and Hicks pitch and whether Matos can take advantage of Yaz’s absence over the next several days.

I'd rather see Landon Roupp pitch versus Luke Jackson in any event.
Harrison vs. Musgrove today. Musgrove's an RHP, so Wade gets the start. Similar lineup to yesterday, I should imagine. Musgrove gave up 5 earned runs, 7 hits and two walks in 2 2/3rds innings vs. the Dodgers. Padres won that game in Korea, 15-11.

D-backs scored 14 runs in 3d inning. Without an HR. 14 out of first 15 hitters reached.

After recovering from my shock, I realized you were talking about the game against the Dodgers and not an early start to today's Giants game. THAT result would have tempered enthusiasm....

I was in the same boat. How did the Giants give up 14 runs? Been traveling and currently dazed and confused. Thought it was against the Dodgers, but they are playing the Cards. The Rockies gave up the two touchdowns. . . .

Yesterday's game was a good representation of what the off-season acquisitions are capable of. Lee had two hits, he's hitting .375. Soler scored two runs, had a double and a walk. Chapman had two HRs and turned a sparkling double play with Ahmed, and Estrada and Ahmed turned an excellent double play. Wade-to-Estrada-to-Chapman threw out a Padre trying to stretch a double into a triple.
Five of the eight runs scored with two outs, team went 5 of 11 with runners in scoring position. Kyle Harrison pitched well, gave up an HR to Machado on a slider and an HR to Tatis on a curve. 12th round pick Landon Roupp pitched a scoreless inning, Tatis had an HR off of Ty Rogers. Walker closed it out, saving Doval for another day.
Conforto's come around (.444), and Slater got in for defensive purposes replacing Wade. Entertaining brand of baseball, just one error in two games. If this is a microcosm of the season...with even greater improvement with Snell, Hicks and Ray, I could see this being a 90+ win team. Hicks pitches today against the Padres, we'll see how the experiment works out. Hope he throws 70 or fewer pitches. After the Padres, three games in LA, then three more at Oracle against the Padres. After the first 10 games of the season, we'll know what we have.

DeSclafani out for the season. He will undergo surgery (flexor tendon)
Also, the Braves placed Sean Murphy on the IL (oblique). Perhaps a return to his home state might be in Bart’s future.
Lots of rain in the San Diego forecast. A postponed game or two could help the Giants bridge the gap to Snell.

Fisher is such an embarrassment. When MLB does things like allowing Fisher to treat the A’s like his personal fiefdom, I start to question why I’m paying attention to baseball. I’m hoping that the Las Vegas deal fails. The Chron reporters seem to think it’s smoke and mirrors at this point.

The existence of John Fisher, one of the all-time winners in the genetic lottery and a member in good standing of the Billionaire's Boyz Club of owners, is symbolic of MLB rot today. He and his lapdogs Kaval and Manfred are the triplet poster boys for the State Of The Game today. His toy "team", once upon a time a proud franchise, is now an apt reflection of himself and MLB: an inept, hapless, embarrassing punchline. I'll take a peek from time to time only out of morbid curiosity.

Fisher is a bum. But I really don’t see how that equates to the rest of major league baseball. Which is in fact, thriving
