I had been wondering if there had been anything else behind the scenes with Martinez , but looking at the numbers there isn't much evidence for anything other than Martinez hitting a slump and Troy coming in and responding with some HRs.
Martinez's went into a (not terrible) slump starting roughly in the middle of the USC series. His BA has dropped every appearance since the second SC game, hasn't hit a HR, and had a an average under 0.200 (11 games for him).
Troy started alternating starts with Martinez in the cal series, gradually started more games, then every tournament game.
Starting with the cal series, Troy has hit BA=0.225, SLG 0.525, with 4 HRs, 3 of those in the tournament (vs NDSU, UCI, Texas Tech).
Not a of immense proportions average, but some notable power.
The one curious move in this recent stretch was that frosh Carter Graham got one start (vs OSU) and one pinch hit appearance in the tournament (first game vs UCI, the 12-4 win). Martinez hasn't appeared in the postseason.
Good stuff. That said, I think Martinez was effectively swapped out for Eddie Park. I believe prior to Park starting, Jones was in his spot in left, Tawa was in center and Troy at second. At least that's my hazy memory at work. Bottom line: I'm surprised that Park's bat was swapped in for Martinez'.

No way I am in any position to critique Coach Esquer's decisions at the end of the year, so I am not going to. The triggers he has been pulling have led to much recent success. Love all the guys who are currently in the lineup. Coach has the team in "sum exceeding the parts" mode.
But I have to admit a twinge, or considerably more, of feeling bad for Martinez. He provided a lot of offense for the first half of the year, while other bats (some of which are quite hot now) were rather tepid.
Also, during the Super Regional in Starkville two years ago we were seated right by the Stanford bullpen, back in Martinez's bullpen catcher days. During a tough two days for Stanford, he was great fun. Kind of feel like he's part of our family. So, without questioning Coach Esquer in the least, I am secretly hoping some scenario (which does NOT involve an injury) unfolds that gives him a chance to shine in Omaha.

That has been the ultimate effect, but it wasn't a 1 to 1 thing. Seven spots in the batting order have been quite stable season-long (though only Jones has started every game) with the other two mixing around. Since Martinez starting getting fewer starts, the last two spots were filled by Troy, Park, Martinez (less often) but also Kretschmar started at 2B for the Oregon series, Graham got a start, Barrera got 2 starts vs cal.
Park got some starts before Martinez lost his starts at DH, and Park didn't become a full-time starter at the same time Martinez lost out (immediately, that was Kretschmar and Barrera).
Park became a full time starter vs OSU, the last series of the regular season.
Since that time, Park has been hitting better but walking less than he had been earlier, so his on base percentage has gone down.
Park before OSU series:
BA 0.268, OB% 0.412
Park since OSU series (as starter):
BA 0.290, OB% 0.342 and he's scored 8 runs in 9 games.
Park doesn't have much power, he hasn't had an extra base hit yet.

I guess none of you noticed Martinez going up with an invisible bat! He was in a slump and was not producing.

Well, those are the seniors who play the most.
The top prospects on the team are probably Jones and Bowser, but not this year.
Once it's time to think about next year, names to watch are Williams and Palisch.
