I happened to watch the Feb. 26 game of Texas vs TCU on the Longhorn Channel. Two Texas players were taken out for the game (won by nearly a 2x score) due to head injuries in the first half. One of them caught an elbow (perhaps to the jaw) during a rebound. She looked like a boxer who caught a big right hook.
"Warren, a senior who has a documented history with concussions," took a wobbly step, and another, and crumpled to the floor (to me it seemed she was unconscious by the way she collapsed.) Immediately post-game (in Austin), they announced "Both are fine". Each played 20+ minutes in the next game.
I know nothing about diagnosis of concussions or what causes a player to collapse like that, but I worry about that player's health, and, by extension, the health of the other injured player (Gaston, a starter)
Watching Texas play on their own channel in their own arena was jarring. The camera was on the coach 1/3 of the time. Typically in an inset or split screen, and full-screen when play wasn't happening. He & his antics were the focus. I guess this is entertainment instead of sports.

IIRC Jamie Carey couldn't pass our concussion protocol. She did at Texas.

Playing Gonzaga in Spokane . . . that would be a tough match up.
The Zags are well-coached, at least that is my distinct recollection when watching them on the Farm in the last year or two.
Hmmm.

Yes, we didn't beat them handily in Spokane earlier in the season. Of course, we'd both have to get there.
Zags won today.

As for not beating the "handily" earlier, I think that was the game when 7 of the 17 players on our roster were out due to Covid protocol or other reason. One of the missing was Haley. Ashton started in her place, played 23 minutes and had 8 points. In the 2nd quarter, we were down by as much as 15 points before a 14-4 run to close the quarter cut the Gonzaga lead to 3 at halftime. We were ahead by 2 at the end of the 3rd, then tight nearly all the way to the end when Stanford won by 4. 48% field goal shooting vs Gonzaga's 37% was the difference maker, more than making up for their 9 point margin at the free throw line. Bottom line, yes, they could be a challenge -- though when they came to Maples, we really did dominate.

Notably, we also didn't have the services of the reigning NCAA Tournament Championship and PAC-12 Tournament MVP...

Just a note that Gonzaga is currently projected to be an 11 seed:
https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/30423107/ncaa-women-bracketology-2022-women-college-basketball-projections
Thus, even if the exact projections are wrong, they would be a long shot to even make it to the regional, if they are in the Spokane region.
Ironically, the best result by an 11 seed was… Gonzaga making it to the elite 8.

I take it you mean long odds that Gonzaga beats a #6 seed and then (presumably) a #3 seed. Fair enough, particularly inasmuch as they will have to win (presumably) at #3 seed's home court. Still, it wouldn't surprise me that much. I think Gonzaga is a very good team, and there are only a handful of teams I would expect to beat Gonzaga . . . and that's on a neutral court.

Well, here’s a list of teams that has already beaten Gonzaga:
Stanford (twice)
Washington State
UC Davis
BYU (twice)
In terms of ranked teams that they’ve beaten, the third time was a charm as they beat BYU.
They are ranked 25 by NET, so an 11 seed may be underrating them. They have a 2-4 quad 1 record and a 4-2 quad 2 record; the remainder of their games were quad 3 or 4.
I think they probably should be more like a 6 seed than an 11 seed, but still they would likely have to upset at least one time to make it to the regional (and there’s no guarantee they’d be in Spokane).
I guess we will see. We will know on Sunday.

Yes, nice game. Good coaching moment late when UNLV was about to get tied up or commit a shot clock violation. Lindy called timeout with two seconds left on the shot clock, got her team organized on the sideline with an out of bounds play, and they hit an open corner 3 to beat the buzzer. That was a big basket as the game was very close.

Attrition at USC: Jordyn Jenkins, Alyssa Pili, and Angel Jackson all in the portal for the Women of Troy. Angel Jackson is headed to Jackson State.
Definitely an ominous sign for Gottleib at USC to be losing so many key parts so early,

Jackson left the team about 6 weeks ago so a sign of what was going to happen.
A poor hire.

Yikes. Plus Endiya Rogers prior to the start of this season. Not a good sign. Gottleib left the cupboard very bare at Cal when she left. They will have to hit the portal hard. Things seem very bleak at this point for a turnaround.

I wonder if the rich will just get richer...will Pili wind up at a place like Oregon as her teammate did?
I am very sour on teams that rely heavily on transfers from four year institutions. Just the traditionalist in me.

Yikes. Talk about emptying the cupboard. I like Gottlieb as a person, but like Haase, I can get Ted Lasso on Apple TV. I watch sports to see well coached teams.
