I'm not at all bothered by Oklahoma's religious belief and bond. Many, many athletes, Stanford or not, seem to have a strong religious component to their lives. My only problem was with their over-amped reactions to fairly normal things in a game. They seemed to think it was all part of their "expression of joy." I thought it was obnoxious and showed a distinct lack of humility. However, softball is a very rah, rah sport these days. Teams are constantly singing, cheering, wearing funny hats, and doing many other spirited things to support their team. Stanford is included in that. So I tried to keep Oklahoma's antics in perspective. But I am still going to root against them.

I agree Pete. My cheering stance has become "Anyone but Oklahoma". Still I have to make sure I'm not engaging in any double standards. I enjoy watching the Stanford team jump around a player at home plate after hitting a home run. I really enjoy Canady's ebullient celebration after a critical strike out. So I have to see the opponent's celebrations in the same light. But at times Oklahoma was over the top compared to most teams.

A quaint notion originally attributed to Vince Lombardi. This year was the first time I've paid much attention to softball, and while I really enjoyed it, the celebratory antics were much more than I'm accustomed to. At least the celebrations, for the most part, were very team centric. I'm really bugged by the "look at me" antics so many now employ. From talc tossing, to bat flips, to posed fake photo ops, I guess I'm just too old. . . .

Sounds like a cult to me.
Cult? Nah. The accusation of "cult" sounds like the perspective of someone who has not been around religious people much! These girls are just religious; I am fully aware that there are lots of brands of religion, and this is theirs. So what? Sounds like they've found some sort of meaning and peace in their lives. In fact, I'd love it if my kids had a perspective (of whatever kind) beyond immediate circumstances like wins and losses, clicks and likes, paycheck or promotion. I was actually impressed with how well-spoken those girls were, and how they carried themselves with reporters.
I was, however, not impressed with the level and nature of celebration during games for things that seem sort of ordinary.

Does this mean the women won the Capital One Cup? The standings on that site show Oklahoma with only 20 points, but they would receive 60 for being national champs. Our 24 points for 4th place would vault us past Texas and into first place.

With Jordy Bahl transferring home to Nebraska, I don't think it is a hot take now for me to say Stanford will be the favorite to win the national championship in 2024. Stated another way, if OU's starters were Storako and Nicole May against Stanford, Stanford beats OU and IMO gets past Florida State and wins the national championship this year (Bahl was the reason OU got past us this year).
By far the deepest pitching staff in the nation that could amazingly get even deeper and better depending on Alyssa Houston's adjustment to college softball as another All-American and State Gatorade player of the Year joins the Card, this time from the state of Arkansas.

While pitching is extremely important in softball, the Card will have to bring in or develop a consistent power hitter, or two, plus find someone who can do what Taylor Gindelsberger does.

On the strength of its NC in outdoor T&F, Texas will apparently edge Stanford for the Capital One Cup. If Stanford had been voted 3rd in softball instead of 4th, they would have won.

Thank you AV for everything you have done to help elevate our program. In my mind, a clear Stanford Athletics HoF for her contributions to the softball program.

Very well said. Based on the clip , these are impressive women…their God may not be Exactly my God but their willingness to focus on their faith without trying to tell me how to live is admirable and impressive. The celebrating does seem a bit corny but as I understand it, the celebrations are for them and aimed at their dugout, not aimed at the other team. I think it is a way to focus on doing every little thing well, step by step, rather than getting caught up in ‘another ‘ national championship. Whatever it is, it works.
