We were down 0-4, when Sasaki launched a high heater off a lefty, a no doubter past the trees in RF. Followed by a double from Tokheim and an RBI single from Bates. now 2-4 and we’re in business!
Oops, don’t know why they sent Bates, who was caught stealing with Nati at bat… 2-4 after 3 full innings.

True frosh Teddy Tokheim turns on an inside pitch and sends a 2run shot 419ft to tie the ballgame 4-4! Cohen Gomez had hung a couple of 0s to keep us within reach.
Bates sends a line drive over the fence in right center and we’re up 5-4!

Stanford baseball now has a 2-game winning streak, although they had yet another difficult time closing out a game in the 9th inning. Up 9-4, Stanford P Mike Erspamer gave up a walk and a single. Closer Colt Petersson came in and promptly gave up a 3-run HR. Fortunately, CP settled down and retired the next three Pitt batters.
Stanford has given up 7 or more runs in the last 8 games. Put another way here are the ERAs of Stanford's starting pitchers in our first 17 games:
Dugan, Nick 6.20 ERA, 5 starts
Keenan, Aidan 6.23, 4
Ketelsen, Brock 6.35, 3
Warner, Parker 8.25, 4
Gomez, Cohen 9.26, 1
On the bright side, Jimmy Nati has been swinging the bat like we knew he could, so Stanford has a better chance of winning a few more high-scoring games.
Gomez has pitched 3 scoreless innings so far in game 2. It’s kinda neat to watch his ERA tick down in real time with every recorded out, now “all the way” down to 7.36!
Gomez gave way to O’Harran after his 3IP. Unfortunately, O’Harran gives up a 2-out 2-run HR, followed by a back-to-back to another Pitt player. Now we trail 5-7.
(Each team had back-to-back homers today.)

Tokheim is lifted for a pinch runner.
His stat line today, 4 for 5, HR, 3 doubles, 4 RBI, 2 R.

Colt Peterson takes the mound T9, leading 9-8.

Runners on first and third and a double play ends it. Come from behind then from ahead loss. 11-10 Pitt. Now 9 games in a row the team has allowed at least 7 runs.

Two runners in scoring position with one out and we fail to score. Now 5-9 heading into the ninth. Pitchers have given up 16 hits. It could be even worse - Pitt has left 16 (!) runners on base. It's going to be a looong season. And a VERY short postseason.

Pitt wins 10-5. Now 10 games in a row that Stanford has allowed at least 7 runs. Cardinal are 1-5 in the ACC. Nuts.

I seriously think Esquer. needs to consider finding a new pitching coach. Eager is too caught up in having his kids in the dugout than actually doing his job. Volchko and Scott jump ship. They seem to be doing OK at Georgia. This team can score runs, but are deflated when the pitchers cannot throw a shut down inning.

Well. Stanford just put across two in the bottom of the ninth to beat Utah Valley State 4 to 3. Sasaki with a home run in the eighth, and the game-winning hit.

Fun finish to today's game, with Sasaki hitting a walk-off single to drive in the winning run (bases were loaded). Couple of guys grabbed the Gatorade cooler to chase Sasaki in the outfield as the team gathered to celebrate.
