Against #16 Florida International; final score 4-1. Hodel/Kriz lose in third set 18-16. So wins today against #12 LBS and #16 FIU. Play LBS again tomorrow. A little surprising Stanford did so well today at Long Beach. Weather is windy and temp in the 50s; not my ideal conditions for volleyball.

Good to see Belardi back in action today, too:

For the first few years of Coach Fuller's tenure, I thought he didn't experiment with the pairings enough (though he had a smaller pool of players then, and maybe the ranking of his players was "obvious").
Now there are changes in the line-up almost every dual.... And I start to wonder if it will ever settle down. ;-)
Glad more than 10 players are getting experience, and I hope everyone is learning from it.

Stanford just beat Long Beach State 3-2
brobdingnagian comeback by Morris and Reilly who lost the first set down in the 2nd but won 28-26 and win the 3rd.

Stanford beats Vanguard 5-0; rests Belardi/Vincent. Hodel played which leads me to believe she must be relatively injury free.

Apparently Alix Klineman spent some time with the team.

Stanford beat #17 Tulane just now. It’s 3-1 with the final match in a 5th set

Stanford over St Mary’s 5-0
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 04-05-2023
No Belardi in either match. Belardi/Vincent was Stanford's winningest combo. Injured or some other reason Belardi not playing?

I wasn't able attend the duels today; I expect to be there for Stanford vs. UCLA on Friday. And maybe vs. Cal on Saturday.
Belardi did play last week. As I noted earlier, Coach Fuller seems to be experimenting with his line-up for 3s, 4s, and 5s quite a lot.

Disappointing day for Stanford. I was not there for the 2-3 loss to unranked Arizona. The 1s, 2s and 4s all lost 3-set matches. So close.
I did get there at 2pm for the UCLA dual, but Arizona vs. Utah was still underway. In fact, the 1s match was just getting started, and went three sets, so Stanford didn't get started until after 3pm. I didn't expect them to beat UCLA, but was hoping for a little better showing. The 2s (Ekstrom and Harvey) went down in two sets. The 4s (Belardi & Vincent) won their first set, but dropped the second and third. The 5s (Andersson & Kubiak) were no match for UCLA's Whitmarch & Monserez.
The one bright spot was Hodel & Kriz coming back from a first set loss to take their match at the 1s. The last match to start (3s) was probably also the longest, with all three sets going extra points. Reilly & Sharp had match point at 14-11 (IIRC), but could not put it away. A couple of UCLA's serves looked like they might be going out, but were close enough that Sharp had to play them, and they could not convert.
The dual finally ended about after 5:30. I wish they would build a little more time into the schedule, to make it more realistic.
I did not hang around for the USC vs. Oregon dual (starting ~5:50pm) , which looked like it would be finished in the dark.

Stanford takes on Oregon and Cal tomorrow, nominally at 2pm and 4pm.
Unless they can upset Cal, they will drop at least one spot, probably two, in the poll.
ETA: the Stanford vs. UCLA dual is scheduled to be rebroadcast on Pac-12 BA at 1:30 am tonight.

While my Sling program guide is showing the wrong teams, I think the matches today will be on Pac-12 Networks. DVR has been set.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 04-08-2023
Yes, but with two matches scheduled before Stanford plays, you can anticipate the Oregon match will probably start a hour or more late.

Not as bad as yesterday. I think the last dual was only about 20 minutes late getting started. And the Pac-12 network stayed with it past 6:00pm, until the dual was decided. They didn't show the Stanford 3s' win, which finished later.
I am a bit disappointed by the season this far. Stanford is 20-9 (19-9 if you don't count their win over NAIA Vanguard); ranked 10th, though I expect them to fall a spot or two with their loss to Arizona. I had hoped they could get a top-8 seed in the NCAA tournament, but that's not looking good at the moment. They do have eight more duals (including a rematch with #9 Cal, and duals with #5 LSU and #6 GCU) before the Pac-12 Championship Tournament, which will be held at Stanford. So there are still opportunities to build their resume.
Seems like Stanford needs more consistency from their top two teams. Hodel & Kriz beat UCLA, but lost to Arizona and Cal. Ekstrom & Harvey went 1-3 this weekend, beating only the lowly Ducks.
Belardi & Vincent did set a school record by getting 20 wins in one season as a team (including winning at the 3s against Oregon).
I did not get down to campus to watch in person today. On the broadcast, the announcers (McPeak & Anderson) mentioned talking to Coach Fuller, and that he said something about hoping to expand the beach stadium to five courts. That would be great, if they could play all five matches at once. It would really speed things up. I have long though it was a shame they didn't build five to start with. Not sure if this is just pie-in-the-sky speculation, or something more concrete.

I was watching part of the Stanford v. UCLA replay, and the announcers mentioned that UCLA has 7 grad students on their roster, plus 3 seniors. (they have 24 total players on their roster.)
Of the 10 UCLA players who played Friday, 4 were grad students, 2 seniors, 2 juniors, 1 sophomore and 1 freshman.
In contrast, Stanford fielded 1 grad, 1 senior, 4 juniors and 4 freshman.

To my surprise, Stanford remains ranked at #10 in both the AVCA and CBVB polls.
Arizona goes from unranked to #20 in the former; and from T20 to 19 in the latter.
