Stanford at Cal tomorrow Wednesday at 7:00pm PT on ACCNX.  

Cal is 2-6 in conference and has no wins against ranked teams.  I still think they are a decent team and will be competitive.  Cal has a new head coach this season who is going through a rebuilding phase.  She is a good coach with an impressive resume and will have Cal back in the rankings in a few years.

Cal's best offensive player is 6'3" OH Xuemeng Li (Maggie) from China.  Li was PAC-12 Freshman of the Year last season.  I wish she was at Stanford although Hambly didn't recruit her.  Li demonstrates it takes more than one elite player on a volleyball team to get to the top of a conference.

Maybe it's my imagination but I don't like watching livestreams or telecasts from Haas Pavilion because it seems like the cameras are a hundred miles away from the court.

I once got to sit in the very top row at Haas, back when Stanford men's basketball team was must see stuff.    The pitch was horrifying.    Some arenas will have tiers or decks, so it is not uncommon for the top decks to have steep pitches.    However, this pitch was steeper than anything I had seen in any arena AND that pitch is maintained all the way down to the seats right near the basketball floor.

I have gone just one other time, for volleyball, and thankfully got to sit closer to the action.   However at almost every seat in the venue one will realize they are much higher above the action than one might expect in other venues.

So when I see Haas games on TV for volleyball or basketball I not only am reminded of my personal viewing experiences, but I also understand why the TV angles are so funky compared to more typical venues.

Yes, Haas Pavilion seating is steep.  But the problem for TV is that there is nowhere to put cameras except too low or many rows up.
Maples has the walkway around, between the lower upper and the upper upper seating, where two or more TV cameras are typically.

Cal, or the conference, would do well to find some mechanism to have cameras suspended in the air on cables as we see at football stadiums.

I recall going to Foxboro Stadium when I lived in the Boston area to see a Pats' game. The seats were approximately 3 rows from the very top. Watching the game from there reminded me of the times I have gone up the Sears Tower to it's observation deck and saw the cars/people below as if they were tiny ants. 

After the game, I went to the top to take a look at the view (standing up you could see past the edge into the abyss below that was the parking lot). I could swear that I saw a couple of planes flying below the height I was standing at the top of the stadium to give an idea of how high those seats were. 8^)

Yay it's back. It went out just as I sat down to watch.

The ESPN app is a pain. I started it and picked the ACCNX broadcast, which was on the first screen, only to be informed that channel is not in my cable package -- though ACCN is, and I have ESPN+. I had to navigate through the app on a different path to find the same broadcast on ESPN+ and then I could watch it.

Francis had a good match.  Yu with 5 aces and no service errors. 

Cal tried every combination of players but couldn't find an answer.

On match point a Cal blocker clearly touched the ball as shown on the replay.  As much as I like the Cal coach I didn't like her challenging the call on match point when down 10 points.

She played Opposite in the Syracuse match earlier this year, when Rubin sat.  6 kills, 0 errors on 10 attempts in that match.
