It's all for TV, full meter. No stadium can hold 20 million people.

But the TV product will suffer if it shows stadiums at significantly less than capacity. The ncaa needs to fill those seats with interested fans.

I dunno, March Madness arenas are very, very empty very frequently. (And because of the NCAA's branding rules, they all look identical -- if you flip through channels you have no idea where any particular game is from. It's like turning sports into standardized fast food, with no local flavor.) Still works very well as a TV product.

Nah, they'll just us judicious editing. Those of us at home will never see empty stands unless they want us to see them.

Hence, the lower ticket prices.

It was weird being in Maples for an NCAA-run WBB tournament game with the ceiling-mounted hoops supplanted by floor-standing NCAA basketball standards, NCAA promos glorifying UConn and other hated rivals on the video during breaks, and STANFORD printed on the baseline in NCAA blue instead of Cardinal red. It was hard to see what any of those touches added, other than obstructed views for folks with seats behind the basket.

Standardized baskets with identical "touch"?
Rims can vary greatly so maybe they do this to have the same feel/stiffness for every round.
No clue on the other points.
