I am amazed the spread initially favored UCLA. If they scored only 17 against BYU, I would expect even fewer against the Cardinal, unless the bruins somehow fix everything this week. And I think the Great Machinery of Stanford Offense begins to click a little more this week. Even though the ucla defense is good, they remind me of kstate's. This is also the first game with Harrison Phillips and Bryce Love, and so far this week, no Stanford players have trolled frosh recruits on Twitter. Plus some ucla players looked gimpy after byu.

These next two road games will say a lot about this 2016 Stanford squad. I am confident in their ability to win these games, but not without a hard fight. Perhaps it's the hype about the Bruin run defense or that icky flutter feeling deep down that UCalLA is due, so my prediction reflects a lower scoring defensive game.Â

27 to 17 for Stanford. Four sacks for the good guys as #partyinthebackfield makes like miserable for Rosen.

Had a heck of a time picking a score for this game. Would love to see us blow them out, but I just have an inkling that Rosen will be on his game. He was very critical of himself after the BYU win. Burns could have some butterflies; maybe mess up and throw a couple of picks. This will be a much tougher game than U$C, but we will prevail. 8)

UCLA's strength appears to be its D-line--23 rush yards allowed to BYU is a pretty impressive stat. That, combined with Burns' first road start leads me to expect a relatively low-scoring game.
Stanford will have trouble with its staple power runs. Look for Shaw to dial up screens, QB runs, and option play when the standard power game fizzles.
Schultz and Irwin both get involved in the short passing game. Stanford manages just two offensive TDs and one FG.
Stanford's defense stifles the run and is largely successful pressuring Rosen. UCLA leans more heavily on its passing game; Meeks takes an int to the house to provide another 7 for the Card.

Time to put up. I'm guessing someone's used this theme already, but recycling is good for the earth:
School Josh Rosen attends: 24
School Josh Rosen wanted to attend: 31
Wilner picks us to win and beat the spread, but that is a bit of cheating since he's using the opening spread instead of the current one.
For some reason, Ted Miller is the one ESPN blogger I don't want to see picking against the herd/us.
