Notre Dame is glad to be in the Top 10 with a projected 444 points scored during the Winter season.
https://notredame.rivals.com/news/notre-dame-to-vault-into-top-10-in-learfield-directors-cup-rankings
The author gives Stanford its due:Â "Per usual, Stanford is easily the leader with 962.25 overall points. The Cardinal has won the Cup every year since 1995, with North Carolina capturing the first such competition in 1994."
The Cardinal currently have 457.75 Winter points posted with points still to come for both Gymnastics teams.

Re: Learfield Directors Cup -
BigEasyCard - 04-23-2017
With both Gymnastics teams finished for the year, I project Stanford to have an unofficial total of 1,094.75 Cup points. This assumes 52.5 points for the Women finishing tied for 19th, and 80 points for the Men finishing fourth.
So far this year eight teams have scored for each gender, counting Fencing on the Men's side. The projected total is 7.75 points behind last year's total for all teams through completion of Gymnastics.
The next official release of standings is April 27.

Re: Learfield Directors Cup -

Per today's release of updated standings, the Cardinal lead with a total of 1,088.50 points.
My previous post erroneously placed Women's Gymnastics at 19th when they actually placed 25th for 46.25 points. YTD, the Cardinal teams are 14 points behind last year.
Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, and Wisconsin round out the top five with scores ranging from 818.00 to 692.00.

The gap between #1 and #2 is now "only" larger than the gap between #2 and #14.

And as of April 5, Stanford is in the lead for both men and women in the Capital One Cup:

I'm not sure if the men's lead will hold, unless baseball makes a deep run in the NCAAs.

There's a better chance of this happening this year than last year! 8)

The National Championship win by Women's Water Polo earns 100 Cup points bringing Stanford's unofficial total to 1,188.50.
Congratulations to the team for a dramatic victory and pulling Stanford even with UCLA for national championships at 113.

North Carolina is out of the Men's Lacrosse tourney. So, that boosts the not Stanford cup chances for the men too right?

Who even knows? I figure they are likely to come up with a "scoring clarification" or some other bs whenever possible to deny a Stanford sweep.Â

Maybe announce that lacrosse points count treble with a new degree-of-difficulty bonus... because all the North Carolina scorers were being hit with sticks

Cardinal Men's Tennis finishes in 9th place after losing in the Round of 16, earning 64 Cup points. This matches their Cup total last year.
Stanford has now earned points in eighteen sports with an unofficial total of 1,252.50. This is 4 points less than the same eighteen sports earned last year.

Cardinal Women's Tennis finishes in 2nd place after losing the Final to Florida, earning 90 Cup points. Congratulations to the team for a stellar season and a great tournament run.
Stanford has now earned points in nineteen sports with an unofficial total of 1,342.50. This is 14 points less than the same nineteen sports earned last year.

Cardinal Women's Golf finishes in 3rd place after losing their Semifinal match to ASU, earning 82.5 Cup points. The team had a great season with a combination of veteran players and promising freshmen.
This is the eleventh scoring sport on the Women's side so the lowest score, 25 points for Field Hockey, drops out. Stanford has now earned points in nineteen sports with an unofficial total of 1,400.00. This is 21.5 points less than the same nineteen sports earned last year.

On the Cardinal Women's side, Rowing and OTF can still contribute points. The current lowest counted score is 46.25 for Gymnastics and the next lowest is 50 for Soccer.
For Rowing, a finish of about 13th will earn net points. Women's Rowing was ranked 8th as of 5/17.
For OTF, a finish of about 25th will earn net points. Women's OTF was ranked 20th as of 5/22.
So, Stanford Women still have some scoring opportunities, but the major Cup scoring additions will have to come from the Men's side where nine teams have scored so far.
The next official release of Cup standings is tomorrow.

Thanks for keeping on top of this! Hopefully the men can do some damage in baseball, track and field, and golf. This seems like a particularly successful year; any sense about what the record is for Directors' Cup points and whether it's possible?

Not sure about the record, but while researching that, I found an announcement about scoring changes which take effect starting next season:
"CLEVELAND (May 4, 2017) For the first time in recent history, the Learfield Directors Cup Committee voted recently to make scoring adjustments. It will go into effect with the 2017-18 academic year.
...
The following changes will be made beginning with the 2016-17 (sic) year with regard to the scoring:
Division I: Count 19 sports with the following breakdowns (decreased by 1, 19.1 avg.)
Four of which must be Baseball and Mens Basketball, Womens Basketball and Womens Volleyball"
Here's the link:
http://thedirectorscup.com/2017/05/learfield-directors-cup-scoring-changes/
Good for Stanford that Men's Basketball is on the upswing.
This appears to be an effort to make the Cup easier for others to win. In all three divisions, a single school has dominated for the past 10 years:
I Stanford - 10 of 10
II Grand Valley State - 8 of 10
III Williams 9 of 10
In any event, this will reduce potential scores by 100 points, so the record (approx. 1550?) is probably safe unless we break it this year.

Anybody want to guess how many Cups Stanford would have lost under the revised rules?
Re: Learfield Directors Cup -
fullmetal - 05-24-2017
Interesting that they removed the gender counts. I think Stanford will benefit from women's team scores that would have otherwise been dropped and may now count. You could theoretically have 17 women's team scores plus baseball and men's basketball, if those 17 women's team scores were each higher than any of the men's team scores. I'm also mildly pleased that they didn't make football mandatory as a counting sport.
I wonder if this will lead to any renewed emphasis from the AD on certain sports' performances.
Re: Learfield Directors Cup -
BigEasyCard - 05-24-2017
FWIW, over the past ten years, Stanford has averaged 1,457 points with a low of 1,261 and a high of 1,550. The second place school (Ohio State, UNC, UCLA, or Florida) has averaged 1,253 points with a low 0f 1,182 and a high of 1,314.
We had a close call in 2013 when we beat Florida by 16.5 points.
Stanford has averaged 16% more points than the second place school.
Our margin will probably narrow under the new rules, but we can still expect every Stanford team to strive for excellence.
