I enjoyed watching Matt Keough play well for a horrible (but still my favorite) team in Japan.

Titans are a tough matchup but as the #8 seed we should expect a tough second team

Well, we should expect the ninth toughest second team.
I am not sure yet whether that would seem to really be the Titans, but of course it makes me a little nervous we lost two of three to them already.

A quick look at polls and RPI.
Nominally we would expect second teams to be from the 17th to 32nd strongest team overall.
By RPI, Fullerton is #41, so not particularly strong.
By the polls, Fullerton is #17, #16, #17, and #19 - so very strong if the pollsters know better.

I am inclined to believe the polls more than the RPI, but the 2/3 losses were the opening series of the season in February, long before we got on this current roll, so I wouldn't put much stock in that data point.

I would be more inclined to believe the polls as well.

A power ranking I rather liked in the past is that done by Boyd Nation. He no longer writes his blog, but still posts power rankings.
He has Stanford #3.
He has Fullerton #21.
Since Stanford as the 8 seed should nominally be have the #25 team as the second in their regional, that's reasonable.

One danger associated with Fullerton is that they are just now getting back from injurty the guy they expected to be their top pitcher this year (think Tristan Beck for Stanford). Colton Eastman was 8-3 with a 2.23 ERA last year as a frosh and was named Frosh Pitcher of the Year by Collegiate Baseball Magazine. He's been out injured for much of this year, but has come back to make three starts, most recently going 4.2 innings versus Long Beach with 0 runs, 1 hit, 8 strike outs. He started the season getting the save in game #1 against us, going 2 innings with 1 hit and no runs. He then came back and started game #3 (we won 7-6), going 5 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 run and left with Fullerton up 6-1. It seems he got injured in his next outing.
If he is really rounding into form now, that's a big shot in the arm for the Titans.

BTW, if Stanford wins its regional it will host a super regional against the winner of the Long Beach regional (Long Beach State, Texas, UCLA or San Diego State).

I was/am nervous about posting about the super regional possibilities at all, even with the "if" disclaimer!
