It's probably been that way since then, but the last time I remember the field being really spongy and treacherous due to moisture was the 2011 Oregon game. People were hoping for it because they figured it would slow the Ducks down. Well, as it turned out the field seemed to bother us more than it bothered Oregon. Then people (presumably not the same ones) turned around and blamed the loss on the field conditions.
A good example of the old saying "Be very careful of what you ask for. You just might get it."

I think the field caretakers or the University admitted they did something wrong with the field (the mixture of grass, whatever) that led to a the poor conditions that year. The Notr.eDa.me game was bad too if not worse.

Not natural, if that's what you're asking. One of the complaints on the Husky boards is the fact that they don't have a natural grass practice field...for just these occasions. Sad.

Our small town rec department hired a team of dogs with handlers to get the geese off of the soccer field. It made a brobdingnagian improvement. I'd think a college football program could afford it if our tiny town can.

When I lived in Seattle I don't remember geese around the UW fields. I sure do remember seagulls, though. The effect is probably the same.
