It was something Kate said at the last chalk talk.  I have no idea why she would have started the season a bit off.  Perhaps there is an adjustment going between the Stanford system and the international system.  I'm sure that is true for fouls--it seemed to take her a couple of seasons to learn not to foul in the American system, and then she competes internationally and when she comes back she starts fouling again.  You can't generate rhythm or big numbers if you are sitting in foul trouble.  But she was really extraordinary in the NCAAs and started more quietly this season, until yesterday--although she did pick up 4 fouls in a game that was not called all that close.  Yesterday's success was in spite of foul trouble.

As for tOSU, a lot will depend on whether our young players have confidence in their shots.  If we rebound as well as we did against UConn, and avoid turnovers as well as we did last night--then we can give Mitchell 30 points and still win the game, much as we did Plum last year at Washington.  But we have to have a hot shooting night to go along with improved ball care and rebounding.  The pull up and mid range jumper would really help Alanna against Mavunga if she can perfect it.  Last game we had a bazillion altered shots around the basket--we were just trying to squirm around Mavunga and failing to do so.  So...that is a lot of things that have to all happen to pull off the upset.  But I do think that psychologically we will start in a much better place than we did playing at their home in our first game with Britt running on a tweaked ankle.

Kaylee played a fine game last night.  Her  problem of course is scoring.  So with both Marta and Kaylee playing with Smith we really need someone to take the offensive pressure off Smith. Or she is doubled and tripled down low.  In the near future of course again lol that’s McPhee.  For now it’s Carrington, Fingall and Dodson.

Fingall is getting healthier  but Dodson needs to step up.

Ohio State is really really good.  Going to be hard to pull this off

The Stanford all-access audio link is not appearing for the game.  Instead the football game is listed, but nothing for WBB.  Hopefully they will get this fixed by 8 pm when the game is scheduled to start.

How did folks listen yesterday? I used my Android phone because when I tried the link in Firefox on my Linux laptop, it would play the mandatory commercial but then wouldn't play the game audio.

Listening on the phone was awkward because the audio would play only it I kept that browser tab on top, with the screen on. If I turned the screen off to save battery life or switched tabs to the game thread, it would stop. It also stopped if I tried to cast my screen to my Chromecast.

Maybe I need to try Chrome on my laptop, or reboot into Windows...

I'm down with a cold today and so will be watching the FB game from home instead of my seat at Stanford Stadium, then will listen to WBB. Well, or watch WVB. Too many events today.

Well, I listened on chrome after following the link to "sidearm sports" which turned out to be "Stanford all Access."  Unfortunately, the link now goes to the Stanford ND football game, and there doesn't seem to be any other link on All Access.  I wonder if we will get the WBB at all, or if it will be delayed until after the football game.  Last night the WBB broadcast was delayed about 5 minutes behind the livestats, I noticed.

Still no obvious way to listen the the WBB game.  Please chime in if you have success.  I am hoping that the broadcast is simply being delayed until after the football game.

Stanford 19 tOSU 13 after the first quarter, according to live stats.  Carrington with 5 and Mitchell held to 2 so far.  Promising start.

Stanford up 19-13 at the end of 1.  Anna Wilson throws up a prayer for 3 at the buzzer.  Stanford is rebounding tonight, that is a big difference from the first game.  They are playing good defense too.

Anna Wilson looks good - 3 3 pointers so far.

Team defense has been really good.  Alexa and Dijonai have given Mitchell problems, but there has also been lots of help.  This looks like a completely different team that the one that started the season.  They still go through stretches though when too many players are "watching" on offense.  They need to keep moving away from the ball.
Alanna has been really impressive inside.

Nice interview with Alanna Smith being broadcast at halftime.

I missed most of the first half watching football beat ND. It was great to hear we were (and still are at halftime) ahead!

It is hard to believe that we are outrebounding them 26 to 12.  Alanna has 10 and Mavunga only 4.  What a big difference.

Mitchell still does not have a basket, and Mavunga has been tamed.  But this is only the first half.  Hard for me to believe they both can be controlled this effectively for an entire game.  We are going to have to score a lot more points to win this game.

3rd quarter has shown Alanna Smith is having an amazing game, and Romano is playing superb defense.  Smith is up to 20 points and 12 rebounds, giving us a 45-36 lead midway through the third quarter. 

Smith is doing so much better against Mavunga than she did in our first game--out rebounding her and eating her up when it comes to scoring.

From what it sounds, Sniezek has been feeding Smith pretty well, just found her on a long fast break.
