I actually like dynasties and concentrating the talent pool in very few hands. 




So long as those hands are Tara's, Kate's, Tempie's, and Lindy's!

Seriously, we used to BE the dynasty that monopolized talent and the rest of the league groaned under our dominance.  We became that dynasty for reasons that had to do with Stanford and its fans being willing to embrace women's sports at a time they were much less popular than they are now.  It seems much of the rest of the country is catching up with us.  For example, can you believe that Stanford now has only the 4th highest attendance in Pac 12 WBB?  Who would have believed  just a few short years ago that in the future there would be three other WBB teams in the Pac 12 that were more popular with their schools' fans than Stanford?

Since this has turned into something of a grab-bag thread, and in keeping with our earlier gripes about Ionescu getting PAC-12 player of the week the week McPhee got ESPNW national player of the week, I thought I'd mention that Marie Gulich was named PAC-12 player of the week over Ruthy Hebard even while Hebard was in the midst of making 33 straight field goals and breaking the all-time record for men or women. I get that Gulich is a senior, and it probably was also in part due to the Oregon-UCLA game happening on Monday night after they named the winner, but on weeks like that they should wait to give the award until Tuesday. If Hebard's performance doesn't get you player of the week, I don't know what does.

2006alum, thanks for your analysis and I do agree with your points. As much as us fans of other programs groan whenever Geno picks up another #1 recruit, you can't blame them for wanting to pick UConn as a precursor to a professional career. Not only does UConn's collegiate domination speaks for itself, but players like Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Diana Taurasi, Tina Charles, Breanna Stewart are having stellar WNBA/Team USA careers. Even those haven't had achieved the superstar success of those players have been key contributors on teams, like Swin Cash, Moriah Jefferson and Stefanie Dolson.

Nneka has had an amazing WNBA career and is up there and Chiney has unfortunately been injury-prone professionally, but the Ogwumike sisters have had the best professional careers recently of Stanford grads.

Appel played for a while, I think all with San Antonio, but she was mainly a rebounder and defensive presence and never translated her offensive output in the WNBA. Wiggins also played for a few years, but she was never the superstar she was in college.

Pohlen and Pedersen have played decent minutes, but mostly off the bench for WNBA teams.

Jumping back to your most recent post, it's a travesy, even if Oregon's game was Monday night, for Hebard not to win the Pac-12 Player of the Week. Gulich had a great weekend beating the LA schools, but the streak Hebard was on was extraordinary.

Kennedy Brown just released her final 7 schools and we are not on it.  But Oregon, Oregon St and UCLA are.

For a Kansas native to put 3 Pac 12 schools on her list and leave Stanford off only makes sense if she or the coaches concluded that she would not fare well with admissions.  If it were just one Pac 12 school then I would think it had to do with an attraction to a particular coach or program, but that is obviously not the issue when she leaves three on her list.  Unless this was an oversight?

Thanks for posting this.  Of course since Brown was at Stanford in Oct on her in dime another guess is two other bigs or three other players are shall we say more desired ?  Just hoping of course.  Or it’s academics.  Or we only want one big.

Jump was the high scorer with 24 points. Jones fouled out with 1:31 left in regulation.

KPIX cut away from their NCAA MBB tourney postgame show to show good chunks of the last 2 OT periods of the Pinewood-Mitty game. Vern Glenn was all over Jump's commitment and Jones's recruitment.

I drove to the Pinewood-Mitty game straight from the Stanford game yesterday and was glad I did. Jump has ice in her veins. Thrilling game with triple overtime - nonstop fun. Only disappointment was Haley Jones fouling out -- but she is quite smooth shooting, rebounding and passing. Cal there scouting her.

If Jump can get significant minutes her freshman year and Kiana continues her shooting prowess, we could have two significant long-range scorers that could allow us to score over a zone for a couple years.

We strongly believe the GPA is incorrect.  Remember the entire Stanford staff was at her house for a home visit 2 weeks ago. 

Plus her coach said 4.0 last year

Nice team awards banquet today. I didn't learn any hot news, but had a great time. Somehow I got seated at a table with Kate Paye and her daughter, Alanna Smith, new faculty liaison Prof. Jeff Koseff, and a bunch of folks who must have been big donors and/or very long time fans. I was the only person at the table who Tara didn't call out for applause during the event.  :D

The banquet was brunch instead of dinner this time, and that worked out great. It was a beautiful day to go for a walk around campus afterward.

Kaylee gave a great farewell speech. She was a tough act for Brit to follow. Both got standing ovations from the crowd.
