Creme said Miss State will get Portland #1 if Oregon loses, but I never heard him says where Stanford would go with a win. Portland (as Portland would be the lowest #1 seed)? Unless UConn loses, which isn't likely.
Hey, BobK. Were those seats worth it? (Wish I were there!)

Wow, just wow. So many gritty impressive performances:
- Dijonai - MVP, just willed the ball into the basket
- Smith - Big timely threes and brobdingnagian quarter ending blocks
- Williams - brobdingnagian three at the end
- Dodson - Blocks and defended Hebard well
- Wilson - Such good defense on Ionescu, fought through every screen to make life hard for Ionescu

So sweet. A month after Oregon won by 40 at Maples, Stanford held the Ducks 30 pts under their average. And Ionescu -- whether great defense or legs tired from last night's Oregon overtime squeaker -- shot 10 for 26. Maybe she's not POY (thinking of Iowa's Megan Gustafson)?
OT: It's always gratifying to watch Brenda Freese hissy-fit like Kim Mulkey when the Terps fail.

That was a fabulous effort by the whole team. I hope those ankle injuries do not linger. Hope those who went enjoyed a great weekend.

Bizarre, I don't understand why Portland wouldn't still get Oregon as #2 seed. Or if we moved ahead of Oregon (doubtful), why we wouldn't get it.
Edit: Oh, never mind, you said #1 seed. Maybe Miss State goes to Portland as #1 seed and Oregon goes as #2.
Creme has been predicting Stanford to Chicago as a #2 seed all along. IIRC that was in the committee's last tentative reveal too. That may still hold.

With Notre Dame's win over Louisville in the ACC finals today, the Irish will probably land in Chicago as the #1 seed. Unfortunately, if what has been predicted holds up, we would get sent there as well. We need to have a defensive performance like today to beat the defending national champs. Like Oregon, they have threats at all five positions

Our depth really told today with a great contribution by Wilson off the bench, as well as solid minutes for Coffee and Lexie.

Oregon was held to 33.9%/27.3% shooting. I wonder if that is the lowest of the season. I heard the announcers say that their point total of 57 was their lowest of the season. AND, we had more rebounds than the Ducks. AND, 8 blocks. AND, more assists. Are we peaking at the right time?

Careful Marty I own two axes, an awl, 2 heavy wedges and six hatchets. Toss in a heavy sledge for driving the wedges. I probably am hitting .333 when tossing the hatchets at a Doug Fir from about 10 meters. Splitting wood is almost a religious experience. I bet Kiana Williams would be good at log rolling.
Great defensive performance. Got to limit the turnovers. Don't watch often but was really entertained. Ionescu looks like she might have played a bunch with boys growing up. Smooth touch.

Write up done at the top. I was able to watch both press conferences. Graves was complimentary of Stanford. Tara was proud. She attributed the win to defense, and specifically called out Dodson and Wilson. Carrington, Smith, and Williams were invited to the press conference.

That’s 13 Pac-12 tournament championships in 18 years since the conference started having a tournament. Stanford is now 45-5 in the tournament all time.

Fun fact about Shannon from
https://pac-12.com/article/2019/03/10/2019-pac-12-womens-basketball-tournament-stanford-outlasts-oregon-13th-pac-12
"Cardinal senior center Shannon Coffee joined the Stanford Dollies and the band to provide a sign-language interpretation of the national anthem. Coffee is in her fifth quarter of American Sign Language. She's been doing it since the team played at UCLA on Feb. 15. The band has been doing it for years."

I'd say very little. Bringing a team that can drive rather than fly is a big concern for the committee. We would have to be a strong #1 seed with Oregon a #2 to even theoretically get Portland. Even then the committee might fudge the seeds slightly so we were both #2.
I'm kind of hoping for Chicago as Creme projects. Then my Milwaukee based sister and I may get together for the games.

I was trying to find ESPN coverage of Women's Basketball and, of course, Stanford specifically, and what I found were months old headlines?

Is this some retired site that google keeps caching or is that really how poor espn.com's WBB coverage is?

oK, what I meant to write here -- Wonderful tournament experience. So amazing, so many really tough and exiting games, totally competitive all the way. And then, of course, the ending. Fantastic, so proud of the all the Card. Everyone contributed, even those who didn't see playing time on Sunday, preparing those who did. This was a real team effort.
BUT, did I have fun in Las Vegas? When going to the games, absolutely yes. When leaving town and seeing the incredible landscapes near Las Vegas -- Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire State Park, yes. But in Las Vegas otherwise, NO. What a mistake to bring the tournament here. The newspaper in town barely noticed the tournament was here. The MGM is one of the most unpleasant hotels I have ever stayed in, and that is in competition with places where they charge your extra for bedbugs. Whole first floor smells of smoke, loud pulsing music everywhere, even our room on the 7th floor smells of smoke. Service is at best iffy. Prices are seriously inflated. Arena food so limited and bad that we ate in the very mediocre food court before games. And on and on. One good thing, locals are friendly and nice, but very few we ran into even knew the tournament was happening, including people working in the MGM Grand. If the Pac-12 really cared about women's basketball, I seriously doubt they would have put the tournament here.

It seems that Tara has reminded the team that they can play defense, and after the last few games, they should realize it now. Maybe some thought our win over Baylor was a fluke, but I think we're just getting back to that form. Obviously Shannon has found a defensive role. I was really pleased by Anna coming in today when the Hulls got into some foul trouble. That's really big as the Hulls can continue to play tough defense even if the refs call fouls on them.
I hope no one has other plans for the first weekend in April. Matter of fact, I'd be happy if Tara went into 2019-20 with a 6 or 7 win lead.

My point was, and continues to be, things didn't turn out as expected. We beat Oregon head to head. According to Creme, that is worth nothing. By his Sunday night choice of top-8, their records amongst themselves
1. Baylor 1-1
2. ND 3-1 (all 3 wins against the same team)
3. UConn 1-2
4. Miss St 0-1 (How does it get this ranking with no wins against top-10 teams?)
5. Louisville 1-3 (all 3 losses against the same team)
6. Oregon 2-1
7. Stanford 2-1
8. Iowa 0-1
(So. Carolina's #18 RPI must be mostly acquired from its losses. I don't know how it had been picked to seed as #12 overall,)
But, according to Creme at half time today, Oregon "hasn't been sharp in the last couple of weeks". Hmm... Yeah, most teams when they have to play without the (then) nation's leading FG% shooter might lose a little edge. I think either he's making excuses for what he's promulgating or he really doesn't pay attention to what's going on. Step past the games with the temporary loss of personnel and then compare to Miss. State over that same period, it is pretty close to the same wins over somewhat similar RPI.
Frankly, in my estimation, Oregon deserves to be higher seeded than Miss. St., based on their records, their head-to-head meeting, their personnel, and the SOS. Yea, Miss State won big today, beating a really undersized (the 2 starters over 5'9" are 5'11" & 6'1") #47 SOS school with 14 losses. In my book, that's a routine, expected win.
I'm not sure we want to be in Portland. We had trouble with Gonzaga, which I bet will wind up in Portland. The NCAA is already ignoring their #13 RPI and not putting them in the top 16.
