This is the NCAA championships. Nothing wrong with recognizing the top 8.
Then why do the Olympics only award 1st,2nd and 3rd. I think the NCAA championships are only a stepping stone to the Olympics or turning pro. Maybe we should give every swimmer who is within one second of the wining time a 1st place trophy and anyone who is within 2 seconds a 2nd place trophy and within in 3 seconds a 3rd. place trophy. And everyone else gets a participation trophy.

that's true for very few, if any, swimmers who finish 4-8 in their event. I have no problem with giving a (smaller) trophy to student-athletes who end up among the 8 best in the nation, for whom this is the culmination of a long career in swimming. This is not akin to giving ribbons to kids who participated in the race around the elementary school yard at recess.

Olympic swimming, is for all intents and purposes, an individual sport (relays excepted). Swimming in the US, from the NCAA level down to rec leagues is both a team sport and an individual sport. Traditionally, all the swimmers in the finals or top heat earn points for their team.

Get the website update ready.
Post the championship video on the Youtube page.
A get ready to greet the bus because...
another team title is coming to The Farm today.
Even with a Stanford DQ in the relay the UCBers will not catch Stanford. Which is nice because now the four in the relay can swim for the win rather than swim to avoid the DQ.

Make room for another NC trophy! It's official. Stanford 456.5, Cal 419.
For the 3rd year in a row, Stanford is the NCAA women's swimming national champion.
Final results -

It's a tree-peat.

That's 3 more than 2nd-place UCLA, according to the NCAA championships record book. [pdf] Though it appears that the Pac-12 might list 117 for the Bruins.
Edit: Uh-oh. Does the site not support emojis?

It doesn't include those NIT championships, no.
It appears that the only NIT championships counted in that particular Wikipedia page are those from 1939-50.

UCLA's edge comes from their 8 AIAW titles compared to Stanford's 2.

Fun fact: There are many schools that use (or once used) different nicknames for their men's and women's teams, whether through the use of the Lady prefix or otherwise, but Stanford is not one of them.
