True but they still have a large cushion in terms of making the cut and not many other teams are doing substantially better. Today is about survive & advance, but ideally they want to finish 2nd, 3rd, 6th or 7th to avoid having to play Oklahoma State who is by far the best & deepest team in the field.

Ugh. The first Stanford appearance on the Golf Channel coverage was Shimp jacking a 3 footer for par on the 5th.
Conditions are very tough today. Pins are tucked, greens are firm, wind is up.

As they should be...but everyone is playing the same course and our boys are just not playing it was well as many other teams. Fortunately they still have a 13-shot cushion vs 9th place SMU.
They got through the first six holes pretty well but the course is supposed to get less challenging after that - apparently not for Stanford. Holes 7-9 are proving to be even tougher

We played holes 7-9 in +8. Now at a team +16 today (the worst round by far of anyone in the top 10), and the cushion to #9 SMU has decreased to 8 shots. But SMU is not doing so great either.

To go from second to missing out on match play would be quite the achievement—seems like they’re doing their level best to get there!

Yeah, this is potentially falling into epic collapse territory. We are at +17 for the day, which means we are currently in 7th, with a five shot cushion over eighth and a seven shot cushion from ninth. Worst round of the day so far.

Also, SMU & Clemson (8th & 9th) started on the less difficult back nine. They still have to play the front nine. However, the gap to not making match play is now only six strokes. Not good. Not good at all

+19 and losing strokes. Lead over eighth is down to four strokes, eight strokes over ninth.

We would have to invent a new term for this if we miss the top 8. The Cougs would object strongly to being associated with this level of collapse. The worse score of the other top 8 is +11. We have more than doubled that. Hard to figure how the group could collapse so completely all across the board.

We just got an eagle from our #5, pushing us back up into 7th. It does look like a war of attrition at this point. Clemson is not really helping its own cause much.
