I agree that it's a brobdingnagian plus. Watching MCBB play halves now feels tedious after being used to NBA, WNBA, and WCBB games. And fouls resetting every quarter keeps everyone, players and refs, accountable.

Whatever a team does in one game, the next one starts the same as the first, 0-0.
Sitting at 36-29 at the end of the first half, we will have to focus and play hard against an inspired team and this large boisterous crowd!

I added my write-up of today's game at the top of the post. One stop shopping for descriptions of the two wins over Cal.
I haven't the faintest idea how we will do next weekend. One way or the other, we will learn a lot about our team.

Kiana Williams' drives were a thing of beauty. Yes Cal has some bigger/slower posts in West and Yue but we have played teams with such posts before and I don't remember Williams drives/finishes being so surgical. It seemed like she was probing, probing, crossing, hesitating and then Bam swooping in for a layup. If she can play like that consistently, then I think we have a good shot at a Final Four.

We really need DiJonai back sooner than later. In critical situations, I trust the ball in Kiana's hands the most right now, she can drive, she can shoot and she can pass. More importantly, she knows when to do what. Having Carrington back will give us another option to handle the ball with the shot clock waning and in a situation where we cannot give the ball up. Haley has the same assorted set of possibilities, but she is more prone to turnovers at the moment. If she can learn to cut down on that (keep a more secure handle of the ball while dribbling and not force the ball into traffic), then that would be another option. Lexie can shoot the ball but I don't think she is too much of a threat driving to the basket with the ball using sheer force/agility.

I was only able to watch the 2nd and 3rd quarters and I couldn't really get a sense of the flow of the game.
In looking at the box score, two stats really jumped out.
The first was PT: every starter except Belibi had 35+ minutes, and Lacie had 26. (Which also felt strange because the part I saw included that awesome stretch where Prechtel scored all of her 11 points.) But I wonder why Tara choose to limit the rotation that way. Not second-guessing, just wondering.
Second, Cal outshot us at the line, 18/20 vs only 4/6; so from the field we outscored them by 28! Were they just getting a lot of homer calls, are we a step slow on D, or what?
One other thing was that Kiana seemed to be constantly driving in but it seemed like she left a few points out there. She ended up 10/18 but I wonder if 15 of those attempts were layups.
Can someone who saw the whole game shed some light? The game seemed to have pretty uneven flow, given the outcome.

Playing an aggressive, handsy, close defense shut down the Cal offense last time, but today it generated a boatload of fouls. Not only did the points from the free throws keep Cal in the game, the style of officiating made us change the style of defense, and Cal was able to get into more of a rhythm scoring. I had let the first comment go, because I figured it was more an expression of surprise than a real question, but I was surprised when your search came up with nonspecific results. The Play by Play indicates (missed) layups, jumpers, 3 pointers.
Kiana missed 1 layup in Q1, 3 in Q2, 1 in Q3, 0 in Q4 (total of 5), 1 jumper, 2 3-ptrs.
She hit 1 layup, 8 jumpers (all in the paint), 2 3-ptrs.

EDIT: So much for the quality of the Play-by-Play. I'm now watching the recorded game and I see her first two makes were layups, which the PxP had as jumpers. Sigh..
