A lot of them played d-line in high school (Umerah, Kaufusi, DiCosmo, Andres Fox), but none of their listed weights scream "lineman." Can any of the defensive ends play tackle at least? DWP

Stanford can run the innovative 1-3-7 defense.

Damn! We invent that just as Leach leaves. But with our problems at Safety, can we really do the 7?

We are in nickel 80+% of the time, and "DT" and "DE" designations don't matter much in a 2-4-5. Ideally it's 2 monster 300 pounders who swallow up blocks (think Vita Vea and Greg Gaines on UW's crazy good D a couple years ago). However, Thomas Booker was one of the 2 A LOT this past year (usually him and Williams) and did just fine.

We need our OLBs to be on the heavier end (over 240/245) in order to contain the edge/work the tackle in run D in such a scheme. For example, Peter Kalambayi and Casey Toohill both weighed 247, Chase Thomas weighed 248, and Trent Murphy weighed 260. (Tobe Umerah weighs 244 and I'm excited about what he can do if he stays healthy.) I believe that was the original reasoning for Andres Fox to move to OLB, as he was basically already the ideal size for the position at 6'4" 250+. My theory is that he redshirted the season to put on weight and move back to DL, but am not sure.

Removed Henry Hattis (transfer to ASU).

Bummer. He would have started at LG, I think.

Hornibrook and Bragg are the future. Press on. No big deal.

I don't think Hattis - or Hamilton, for that matter - wants to play guard. ASU needs OTs badly and is close to home. It's a good match.

Agree with Phogge. Bragg is a stud...shame he was injured. Miller actually looked quite good at LG too, though I think he's more of a natural OT. Didn't watch too much of Hornibrook tbh. We can probably start Myles Hinton anywhere on the line from day 1 too if needed...he's special, and coming in at 6'6" 300+.

The OL in 2022 is gonna be insane. This season's could be really really good too if health permits. It's 2021 I'm worried about, since the "senior class" will consist of the shambling husk of Trey Stratford. I pray Dalman and Sarell stay, because Little is for sure gone.

given the look of his injury, I could see Hattis sitting out '20 and playing '21 (may be finish up his grad degree)

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - SamuelMcF - 02-01-2020

As mentioned in another thread, Stratford is no longer enrolled in school. I suppose we can verify that for sure once an updated Spring ball roster comes out.

Also, walk-on WR Kale Lucas is taking an LDS mission and will come back in 2 years as a soph:

That Philippine town was the site of the famous rescue of POW’s by Army Rangers that was chronicled in the book Ghost Stories and in the film starring James Franco.

I definitely marked Williams; strange that it did not show up for you. I double checked the code. Hopefully it's working now?

-m.

Yes, working now. Thanks.

BC

Weird, back to not showing Williams in the portal.

Wouldn’t he be out of eligibility?  2020 would be his fifth year, unless he gets an injury hardship (both years lost due to injury).

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - Langdude - 02-03-2020

Removed Devery Hamilton (grad transfer to Duke) from chart (OT, 4th year).

Collin Riccitelli also announced a grad transfer to Rice, but I had already removed him from the chart as he was a walk-on here.

Removed walk-on Kale Lucas (church mission) from chart (WR, 1st year).

I will be happy to remove Trey Stratford, but would love some sort of confirmation before I do...

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - Langdude - 02-03-2020

Removed K.J. Costello (grad transfer to Mississippi State) from chart (QB, 4th year).

One year ago, I never would have guessed that turn of events...

I don’t think many of us had Costello pencilled in for 2020, but we all probably thought he would be in the NFL next year. But is the SEC that much of a difference?

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - BostonCard - 02-05-2020

Now that he has signed, you can add James Pogorelc at tackle.

Based on the tackle to guard imbalance, anyone want to hazard a guess on who (if anyone) moves inside?

Agreed on Barrett Miller.  Bummer to lose the experience with Hamilton and Hattis, especially Hamilton.  The young talent was already looking to replace them.

TE looks like the most problematic position group.  I was hoping Parkinson would return.

If Williams and Swann come back, this team would have considerable upside.

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - SamuelMcF - 02-05-2020

Shaw just confirmed in his signing day press conference that Trey Stratford is no longer with the team.

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - BostonCard - 02-05-2020

Miller makes sense, and he could get a year of eligibility back if he redshirts (though we may need him if there are injuries to Hornibrook or Bragg).  But after next year, we will have only three tackles (or four if Sarrell stays for a fifth year), so once again it will be imperative to get at least two tackles and two guards in the 2021 class.

Also, what is it with centers whose names start with Dr?  We have a Drew and two Drake’s.

Rouse (true T), Miller (played most of last season at G but could kick out if needed, and in fact did when Rouse went out in the last game), Hinton (possible swing but love him at T), McLaughlin (true T), and Pogorelc (true T) are all tackles.

Not that I have any insider information about this, because I don't, but I wonder if the prospect of playing LT once Walker Little leaves for the NFL will be a factor in Sarell's 5th year decision-making process. Of course, it's possible he gets NFL looks too; we don't know. For those wondering why Rouse played LT, I believe it's because it was the more natural side for him to play on as a true frosh with extremely limited experience, not because he's "better" than Sarell. (He wasn't. Played admirably and better than a 3* true frosh could reasonably be expected to, but Sarell is a legitimate P5-starter-level tackle with multiple years of S&C... and there's a clear and substantial difference.) I do think Rouse will get there sooner rather than later though given this experience and his first true offseason of practice/S&C.

The '21 target for OL is 3-4. Our current offers are a good mix between bonafide tackles, bonafide guards, and swing candidates, and I expect more of the same as the board continues to flesh itself out.

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - Langdude - 02-05-2020

Changes:

Removed Donald Stewart (WR, 4th year) from chart (grad transfer to Wake Forest).

Removed Trey Stratford (G, 2nd year) from chart (retired, medically or otherwise).

Added newly signed James Pogorelc (OT), Lance Keneley (DE), and Zephron Lester (DT, walk on, great name). I did not add Scotty Edwards as he will go on his church mission before enrolling, so will be part of the Class of 2022.
