ranked #47 nationally coming out of high school and the wisconsin gatorade player of the year.
Congrats to her for graduating! I always wanted to see more of her on the court but I guess that wasn't going to happen with the depth at
Stanford. I hope she has a great year !

has to be jennifer azzi at the 1, though i agree that sonja and jamilla were pretty great. and molly almost single-handedly won our 2nd ncaa title.
nicole is the 6th (wo)man. first off the bench at all 5 positions.
jeanette Pohlen was a consensus all-american.
2nd team is kristin & chiney at forward, nicole at 3, jeanette and sonja in the backcourt
not yet mentioned is lindsay yamasaki. terrific player on some not very good teams.
3rd team molly & jamilla at guard, lindsay at the 3. val & kayla (or alanna smith) at forward.
here is a list of our all-americans

P.S. Think I'd take Pederson, straight up, over Appel.

On the other hand, that means that there are TWO scholarships available on the team for next year. Wilson and Carrington could, theoretically, both come back if the issue really ever was the lack of scholarships.
Covid, however, may be complicating these grad transfers. Do you want to transfer somewhere if it means you might have to sit out a year to play? Not because the NCAA requires it, but because the season could be cancelled? Tough to make decisions under these circumstances.

I also never know what to do with Jeanne Ruork Hoff, who predated the Tara era. She still is on a lot of the all-time charts, and she played for terrible, losing teams. What would she have done on a good team?
Pederson is also problematic. Her whole career she played what amounted to a supporting role--given Jayne and Nneka--and so played a bit out of her best position. But whenever she was around and under the basket she showed incredible talent and I wonder if she would have wracked up chart-busting numbers on a team if she had been the main scoring option. She gave so many intangibles that don't show up on the lists.
Point guard is a another tough call. Do you look for a pure point guard or just use the slot for our second best guard? I wonder if by the end of next season there will be an argument for giving a guard slot to Kianna Williams. Williams, Pohlen, Azzi, and Wiggins for two slots. Sheesh.

Tha tr was what she did he rdd freshman year. Henning is still, for my money, the best true point that Sranford has ever had, and right behind her is Widenan.

The other combo here, Henning and Wiggins is also worth considering. It's a tough choice, but for those of us who saw Azzi and Henning play together, is hard to forget how well they worked as a team. And Azzi was definitely better because she played with Henning. So then the question is, was Azzi or Wiggins the better 2 guard? I might actually go for Wiggins -- which then brings me to a choice of Wiggins and Henning. But really, I can't choose!

It depends what other pieces you had to work with. A case could be made that Nicole Powell's versatility alone is worth a pick, even if there are better players at every position she played.

there are many perspectives. i'm thinking the best players for the stanford system. therefore, i want a point guard who is not just a distributor but who can also shoot the 3. (these days, if you're a pure point guard at stanford, you maybe transfer for your 5th year.) jennifer azzi did fine as a distributor and has the highest 3-point shooting % in stanford history at 45%. jamila and sonja are not in the top 10. i can't find their actual 3-point %, but it has to be south of .390 or they'd be on the list.
similarly, tara generally likes a pure post (if we have one) and a power forward. chiney is not a 5; jayne is. remember jayne scoring 45 in the ncaa's? also, when you look at the scoring totals, consider that jayne played almost her entire senior year with a stress fracture in her foot.

ESPN just released a ranking of which school produces the best players at each position in wBB and we came in the Top 5 of three different lists:
#2 for Sharpshooters: "This is about the best from behind the arc, and UConn and Stanford were quite a bit ahead of the field in that area...The likes of Nicole Powell and Candice Wiggins bolstered Stanford"
#2 for Wings: "Wings are expected to do a lot of everything, and they were graded accordingly, with emphasis on scoring from 2- and 3-point range, rebounding and assists. The same two schools -- UConn and Stanford -- were 1-2 at wings and sharpshooters, and many of the same players contributed to that status. That includes Stanford's Jeanette Pohlen and Alanna Smith, who along with Wiggins and Powell, were on both lists."
#5 for Post Scorers: "Key measurements were points, offensive rebounds and free throws...Sisters Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike led Stanford."

When do we expect all the announcements about where people are going to come out and be final? For example, when will we know about Carrington? This is beginning to feel like free agency.
