The best BBQ in the world used to be served in Eulogy, Texas. The owner had a son playing for Army and each week he would drive a giant restaurant on wheels to feed the team and parents at Michie or wherever the Cadets were playing. On the day we ate there we could not work in the afternoon due to overindulging. Had to come back the next day.
It was a blink and you'll miss it town and I hope he is still there.

Update after Day 29.  

  

A cool feature of the game is that players belonging to eliminated teams have the option of being mercenaries for whichever team currently occupies their home territory.  And by gaining control over OU's home this past round we may get some help from the Sooners.  After all, we didn't clash with them in the game and they might have been amused by our skirmishes with Nebraska.

Update after Day 30.  

  

We've got the entire state of Oklahoma wearing Cardinal red now.  But over on the east coast Clemson has come under attack.  Our expedition might lose its purpose before we finish the journey.  We could need a new goal soon.  

Meanwhile, the Sooners did indeed turn out for us.  They sent 16 mercenaries our way in this most recent round.

Phogge, I was born and raised in Kansas, and the only other state we made of fun of was Oklahoma---except when it came to football. Having said that, I saw plenty of pickups with gun racks (not mine) growing up, but I don't recall any large soft dice hanging from the mirrors. More likely a Bob Dole bumper sticker.

Back to College Football Risk, I started playing about two weeks ago. It's a blast, and I'm pretty sure that it's never too late to join.

Saw the dice once in a pickup. Mostly saw them in what we called jalopies in the Sunset in the early 50's. Now sometimes I spot the tree air freshener on trucks in the Chileno Valley.

Update after Day 33.  

  

Weird night on the front lines of the CFB RISK server. It appears that the anti-bot features of the game invalidated about 80% of players' moves, including some belonging to the game creators themselves. So the game devs re-rolled the round and after the dust settled the second time Clemson had been eliminated.  Meanwhile, Team Stanford is small but mighty and still standing!  

We're in the Final 9 and hold three territories in and around Memphis, another one of the country's BBQ meccas. We probably won't get a chance to extend our BBQ tour to the Carolinas, but we are in need of a new game purpose now.  Will Team Chaos, with whom we share a border, set its eyes on us now as the new easy kill?  Join the discord to talk about our options.

We're down to a single territory, Ole Miss. This is not the Grove where I envisioned Team Stanford might have to make its last stand.  Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

On behalf of Team Stanford I must regretfully inform you all that we have lost the day. On the 36th day of the campaign the forces of Nerd Nation were overwhelmed and exited the fields of probabilistic simulated battle.  

Thanks for following along and playing, helping Stanford reach a Top 9 finish (an improvement on last year's 11th place.)  

If you've joined the cause at any time, or still want to, remember that we can continue to play as members of Team Chaos now, or as mercenaries for the team currently occupying the Farm.  But seeing as how Michigan broke our non-aggression pact, I don't particularly hope you join the Maize and Blue.  

If you played last year you might have joined me in gaining a new team to cheer against when football season returned, as it was the Huskers that broke our pact then.  It was really surprising how much this can carry over into football fandom.  Well, I wouldn't be surprised if this year's participants carry a grudge against Harbaugh's team. That will be a fun new dynamic for me when football is finally back.

I'll post a final update when a winner emerges, or the 50-day limit is reached.

Thanks, you guys. Something I didn't mention when making these daily snapshots is what else goes on behind the scenes between each turn.  We were very lucky to have a few players that engaged with other teams in diplomatic talks, helping to shape our strategy and give the team safety nets. Also, there were some dedicated meme authors that posted regularly to the game's subreddit.  Their humorous taunts, celebrations, and mea culpas garnered us much support with other fanbases and allowed Stanford to live on much longer than other teams our size.  

So if you want to flex your bilateral and multilateral negotiation skills or share your meme-worthy humor on behalf of Team Stanford next year, make sure to join the third installment of College Football Risk!

I love RISK. Played it with two boards in High School. Have the 40th Anniversary Edition a few feet away.

How is this College Football version played? How are dice rolled? Do you get RISK cards? How do you count armies? It would be cool if someone made a video of how this is played on Reddit to get laggards like myself to join in the fun.

I'm not actually super familiar with the real version of RISK and how it compares to this online college football version beyond there being territories on a map and the objective being to conquer every corner of the world/country.  

But I can describe the basics of this year's version of the game.  

Every team brings with them as many players as they can muster, with each player being able to defend a territory the team currently holds or attack an adjacent territory every turn. Each player has an overall star rating to determine their strength.  Here's mine, for example.  

  

The overall rating is determined by averaging the star ratings in those categories depicted with yellow stars.  

Higher-rated players have a multiplier applied to their moves. Here, I'll show you what the help section of the website says about gameplay:  

  

For those players that wish to coordinate with the team strategy, there is a team spreadsheet to track our moves.  Here's an example:  

  

As for the outcome of each "roll," that's determined for each territory in every round of play.  The game computer randomly picks a winner out of the players that placed their move within a territory, with the probability of being picked being determined by star rating and any other applicable multipliers. 

Here is how Stanford's last territory, Ole Miss, fell to the Huskers:  

  

Maybe in the future the developers can modify the game to incorporate the equivalent of RISK cards or the secret mission variants, but this is what they came up with in a version of the game that allows thousands of players to all make a move every turn.
