I have an uncle who is in his late 70's in ICU in SoCal with pneumonia awaiting COVID19 results.

Her husband, who is in hospice with kidney failure, could not be with her. My DIL had to get permission to visit her father, to tell him that his wife of 64 years was gone. There will be no funeral for God knows how long. I cannot hug my DIL, who is a much-loved part of a remarkable family. It sucks.

OMG I am so sorry. These are very tough times and many are suffering. I hope that your situation improves, and that you can find peace with your DIL's mother's passing and that the family can grieve together appropriately. We're all in this together and my thoughts are with you.

I just found out that a friend is in the hospital on oxygen with coronavirus. He's in his 70s and lives in Santa Clara County. I last saw him in a video conference on Monday and he seemed fine. I'm hoping and praying for the best.

Update on my two "cases": Relative who had symptoms recovered fine in a few days and was never able to get tested. He said the sore throat was so bad breathing was difficult for a time--not the most common symptom, but I read a similar account a horrible sore throat from the virus somewhere else, so who knows.

Friend's girlfriend recovered in a couple of weeks. She tested negative, but she had all the symptoms. Articles like this one make me wonder how many of the negatives are actually positive: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-11/false-negative-coronavirus-test-results-raise-doctors-doubts.

I hope everyone else's friends/families/coworkers end up with similarly good outcomes.

Glad to hear both are recovering, burger.

Wouldn't be surprised if both just had one of the bad flu/cold strains going around. Mainly because our testing numbers, as we're mainly testing people that show overt signs are still down around 10% positive, so 9 out of 10 show signs but are actually dealing with something else.

or false negatives.

If it is some other infectious disease, whatever it is must be terribly infectious to be spreading under these conditions at 10x COVID-19, or else it is allergies. I suppose it could have a one+ month incubation period.

My SO's co-worker's husband is a Firefighter. He has a fever and is trying to quarantine in the house. Today he has an appointment to be tested at that new CVS testing facility I posted about in separate TESTING thread.

Don't know if what is happening with his fellow Firefighters, but this is the nightmare scenario. Multiple Firefighters infected, spreading at Firehouse and on calls with other first responders, to say nothing of his wife and two kids living in the same house.

My Nurse friend's rehab/nursing home facility is now being ravaged by the virus. Says they are losing one patient a day to Covid-19 since last week when they saw their first confirmed case. Friend hasn't had symptoms or tested positive, but he's certainly putting his life on the line every day now.

I have a friend in Detroit whose wife is a nurse, they and both of their small children almost certainly have it, although I'm not sure any of them have been tested. He was briefly hospitalized before going home, they all seem to be improving but it's very worrying.

I now have an employee in LA who tested positive for COVID-19. She was feeling poorly in late March, then had a fever on April 2. She called her doctor on April 7, got tested on on April 10, and got her results back yesterday. Positive.

She's 61, out of shape, overweight. Probably has at least one of the co-morbidities. Symptoms included (in declining order of severity):
- Fever to 101 degrees for two days. Had chills to the point she put a washcloth in her mouth so her chattering teeth wouldn't draw blood.
- General malaise, very tired.
- Strange, vivid dreams. Not hallucinations or nightmares, just people in her life doing out-of-context things, which she remembered when she woke up.
- She didn't have a cough or lung issues, because according to her, she slept sitting up, not wanting the infection to get into her lungs.
- Had mild headaches, took Tylenol. Headaches were the right-behind-the-eyebrows kind, she said.

For two days in the middle (sounds like the 6th and 7th) she was perfectly fine, then it came roaring back on the 8th. She returned to work on the 13th. Effective symptomatic period about 10 days, with four days being rough. Never went to the hospital except for the test. Doctor visit was televisit.

Two weeks prior, her 32-year old son had similar symptoms, but tested negative.

My friend in ICU is still there but seems to be getting better. It’s a long way back. Meanwhile, an English friend of mine lost her father-in-law yesterday.

The PBS News Hour devoted a few minutes at the end of its broadcast to profiling a few of the deceased victims of Covid-19, which I suspect will be a regular thing. I found it very affecting and sad, putting faces and lives to a few of the numbers. I was in tears by the end.

SO's co-worker's Firefighter husband tested negative in New Haven yesterday. But given nothing else explains his fever, Hartford County now has over 3,000 confirmed cases and 266 deaths, he's assuming he's got the virus and trying to self-quarantine anyway.

CT Governor issued mandatory face covering order to start on Monday. Applies to anyone outside their home within 6 ft of anyone else. But I'm going to start stopping people I don't see wearing one and tell them the face covering is more to protect others, so put one on!

Right now at work (4K persons) I am at 7 confirmed cases, and another 9 "suspect" meaning doctor believes they have it but not work testing. one person was intubated last Saturday but on Tuesday came off ventilator and is improving. No one else critical, thankfully. Office all working from home and our factories shutting down 1-2 weeks per month and when working using temp checks, masks, and being extremely strict on distancing. Two facilities inspected by local health authorities (one US, one europe) with compliments. Not a single case in our china facility. Very interesting dealing with different government guidelines across the world also, but on the flip side does give us a chance to transplant what seems to work best.

Maybe you can run up to them, get within 6 feet, thereby making your instruction consistent with the law. And if that doesn't work you can stalk him up and down the block chirping in his ear until you shame him into his house . . .

Or, you could make sure you and yours follow the rules/guidelines.

I take my exercise walk, about five miles, in the open air, without mask (but with a pair of disposable gloves in my pocket, since I often enter a convenience store.). No more than 25% of the others out and about are wearing masks.

I don't encounter a great many people, but it's a simple matter to maintain the 6 foot distance. In a worst case, you step into the bike lane and step around. Everyone smiles and nods. I don't know why anyone would be exercised by the absence of a mask in these circumstances.

Very telling that the above was posted March 28, and it's now April 18. As of this morning, the Johns Hopkins data has the US total as 715K. With 31K deaths.

For OutsiderFan, at least in the Bay Area the mask requirement only applies when indoors (and within 6 feet of others), but excludes outdoors. Plus, according to SF Mayor London Breed: "Breed admonished San Francisco residents not to police each other, as she stood at a flag-draped podium on Friday afternoon.

“What we don’t want is more confrontation, more stress, and more drama in general as a result of this order,” she said.

That being said, I still wear a mask when out for a walk, as it has not been ruled out that it can spread from a biker or runner going by you even if they are more than six feet away, and I don't personally find masks uncomfortable so better to be a little paranoid.

All bets became off for me after hearing about Von Miller getting infected. He was interviewed and said he was absolutely staying inside his house with the exception of going out for food maybe 4 times over the last month. He said he took every precaution and still ended up with this coronavirus.

The CDC's own website says the virus can spread in the air as far as 13 feet. Face coverings take that down considerably.

Miller was lying. He got a tattoo like a week earlier, and in a video from it there were a bunch of people in his house. Maybe it's true that he never left, but he definitely had people coming in.
