He is scoring big as an adoptive parent in my book.   Hope he is able to use this COVID time to develop tight family bonds with the twins.

Lex, do you have a link to his statement saying he hadn't been truthful back in February?

5 more days until opening day!

It just won't be played in Toronto this year.  The Canadian government just denied the Blue Jays an exemption to play in Toronto.  Alternatives appear to be their spring training camp in Florida or maybe Buffalo.

Are the California teams still allowed to play in their stadiums?

Weird thing is that hockey is being played only in Canada.

That's not weird at all IMO.

Most of the NHL hockey players are still either Europeans or Canadians.   Right now Europeans can go to Canada, but can't go to the USA.  Canadians really can't go to the USA.   So given the nationalities of most of the players the decision to play in Canada would be logical.

Certainly safer to hold games in Canada than in most USA urban areas with suitable ice rinks.

The problem with playing in Canada is it won’t let players come in from the US, whether on the Blue Jays or the opposing teams.

The NHL is doing a 2 hub/bubble format.  There won't be any flying across the border.  Just like MLB, the players got exemptions to come into Canada as long as they quarantined for 2 weeks (MLB players had to stay at the hotel attached to Rogers Centre).

I don't know if player nationalities was the driving force or just that Canada is a much safer destination for the next few months than the US is.

I believe they are allowed...if they quarantine for 2 weeks.  Which doesn't work with any daily or weekly sports league.

The decision to be made by the Blue Jays with the statement by it president, Mark Shapiro, an American. In this article, Tampa Bay is listed as the 3rd alternative.

They should play in Buffalo.  The Bills, after all, have played some of their home games in Toronto.

I used to live in Canada. As a kid. I lived in Manitoba, which has been stuck on 7 deaths from C-19 for the last 2 months or so. 30 new cases in 2 months. I posted on Facebook to my old high school classmates that it is so boring there that no one with Coronavirus wants to visit there. Their retort was that they have no cases because they have kept all Americans out of the province. Closed the border with North Dakota and Minnesota.

I know it was mentioned somewhat as a joke, but I don't think a blanket prohibition on entry from the US makes sense.  There is ongoing community spread in Canada, so although an incoming traveler from the US is statistically more likely to have COVID-19 than a Canadian, it is not a situation where you can keep the virus out of Canada altogether.  Better to have good social distancing requirements and tracking and tracing than a travel ban, even from a place where the virus is widespread.

Seems to me that you can let virtually anybody into your country of you enforce a 14 day quarantine. That has worked for Taiwan quite well. It is a PITA for travelers, but it it beats a total travel ban. Tracking and tracing (even a "good" one) can be pretty fragile. Taiwan chooses not to over-stress theirs. OTOH, Taiwan doesn't have community spread.
