49ers have shut down their facilities after a player tested positive.
Puts their game against the Packers tomorrow night in jeopardy.

Steelers turn.
Big Ben is a close contact of a positive test to the Steelers TE, whom he sat next to on the plane ride home. He has to be clean for 5 days to be eligible to play.
In all from Nov 1st to Nov 7th, the NFL had 56 positive tests (15 of them players).
There was talk (not here) in the summer about how the NFL would have a better chance of containing the virus than MLB but it's not looking very good for the NFL.

I remember a couple of the points made.
One was that the NFL only has to travel once a week at most. MLB travels multiple times a week and I think this was pointed out right after the Marlins initial games got wiped out after picking up the virus likely in the Atlanta airport.
Another was that the NFL plan at the time was that players and travel team would go directly from airport to hotel. Hotel to practice facility. Hotel to stadium. Thereby minimizing the exposure to outside influence. (I don't know what the MLB travel rules were, but this point would make it sound like they were more lax)

Here's some more stats (from an AP article):

Since the beginning of August, approximately 600,000 tests have been given to players and personnel, and the tests resulted in 78 players and 140 personnel confirmed positive cases.
So since August, 218 out of 600K tests came back positive or under 0.04%
But in November, 56 out of 16785 which equates to about 0.33%
Seems like a low percentage, and yet teams are forced to shut down their facilities. Puts in perspective how bad parts of the US are at 10-100x that number.

The numbers are driven down because:
1) most of them are screening tests, not done because someone is symptomatic or a contact
2) players are tested multiple times

Bunch more positive tests last week, but nothing affecting the status of a game. I wonder if reactive fallout is getting more lax due to knowledge, fatigue, bottom line, or better handling.
Yesterday a NY Giants player tested positive. Turns out it was Graham Gano who just signed a 2 year extension on Sunday. Interesting juxtaposition of emotions.

If by "knowledge" you mean that teams all are realizing that having a player test positive means practically nothing about his ability to play the game (beyond the next game he'll have to sit out), then yes, I agree. I would love an expose of all the NFL players who have tested positive and a description of (i) their symptoms, (ii) their treatment, (iii) their convalescence, and (iv) how they're feeling after being "cleared to play."
Do you think we'll get one of those anytime soon?

In other news, the NFL had 17 players test positive this past week. That's up from last week, which was up from the previous week (I can't find the numbers anymore). In all 52 positives this past week.
There is a silver lining though. The positives all seem to be coming from community rather than player transmission.

Which I guess means that their protocols are good and also means that even in such close contact on the field, it's not that easy to transmit.

As we become desensitized to the onesie twosie releases from the NFL, a big one has been brewing this week.
Over the last 3 days, the Ravens have had 7 players test positive and a total of 10 in their organization. Their game against the Steelers on Thursday has been pushed to Sunday, and if they continue to get positive tests, the game might be in jeopardy of happening.
The Ravens disciplined their S&C coach who apparently did not always wear a mask or tracking device and failed to report symptoms.

Might be the best thing for the Ravens to have game postponed (or not count in final record). The Ravens need to re-group, and playing an undefeated Steelers team undermanned is not the recipe for getting back on track.

Ravens have more positive tests announced on Thursday.
I guess that should be expected if the Strength and Conditioning coach remains the suspected source of spread.
Not sure the NFL will decide today, but looks like the Ravens will not be able to play.
The impact to the Steelers would be they'd lose a likely regular season win over a depleted team AND could lose their playoff bye too.
What a mess, but this will only get worse as we enter December and January.

They've now closed their facilities until Monday.
If they go ahead and play this week, Robert Griffin will likely be the starter.
