No to 6-1 no to 5-2 it’s the first 4-3
It's been a while since I played volleyball, but aren't the common alignments either 6-2 (three attackers and a setter always coming from the back row) or 5-1 (one setter rotating through all six positions, and there being three attackers when the setter is in the back row, and two when the setter is in the front row)? At lower levels, there is also 4-2 alignment (two attackers and a setter always coming from the front row).

According to this person WVB practice can start this week. I thought WVB practice couldn't start until January 5, 2021. I think she is wrong but maybe I'm wrong. BobK, can you help me?

Thanks Jamesy. That gives the team only two weeks for practice and to get into shape. If this season gets air born, I expect a rather wobbly start. All that really matters is where the team is going into the NCAA tournament. The regular season can be viewed as an extension of practice.

That's a great question. I would assume they would practice outside SCC? Can still do weights and drills on campus if I read the county regulation correctly.

Well from another source players arrive Jan 4 quarantine for week and start practice on the 11th
Hope the county allows this at Stanford

I'm not sure what Hambly has planned. IMO the probability Santa Clara will allow indoor sports activities through January is extremely low. Maybe in a gym in a nearby county that will allow it?
And waiting until January 11? Hambly has to show the volleyball world he can coach without Plummer, Gray, and Hentz. I know he can but there are critics who say anyone can win a national title with the players he had last year all of whom were recruited by Dunning except for Gates.

I am going to go the other way - as I have to, given my belief the outlier position of SCC on sports teams was motivated by anti-'Niner animus, and the colleges were just thrown in for cover. 'Niners done in a week. Plus, SCC didn't go all "Wyatt Earp" on either SJSU football team or Stanford hoops teams for "violating protocol" in recently departing for scheduled out-of-town contests. Plus (and most importantly), no Covid positives on these teams. For college-aged kids, that is pretty impressive (and must defy actuarials from "the regular college world"). Really hope the latter factor holds.
And one other thing: the incremental risk from WVB team practicing when (at least some) students are back on campus have to be pretty small. Don't know if this will matter to SCC - or if the Health Officer is wedded to her outlier position. Guess we'll see.

Some stories said the Stanford MBB team would return to campus for a few days. I am not sure if that happened, but if it did it would have been similar to the SJSU FB situation.

Teejers1 you have changed my thinking about SCC extending the sports ban. I haven't been reading the Covid board comments so I don't know the SCC timeline. When does the existing ban end?
The team practiced in San Diego for two months. I heard the players felt it was less than ideal. I'm sure that has gotten back to Hambly and he would prefer to avoid the off-campus route.

Actually about half the team was in San Diego.
Jan 8 is the existing ban. There are only two counties banning college sports
Many many college sports are due to start practice next week or so at Stanford SJS and Santa Clara
My bet college sports can resume in the county. But the brobdingnagian portion of the rest of the ban remain for seceral weeks.

Well, very little they've mandated in the past few months have helped to control the spread at all, but they've steadfastly continued to double down on their policies. Do you really expect them to change course now?
