1.  Trying to secure some $$ for athletic departments so that minor sport athletes will have teams to play on and coaches will have jobs;

2.  Trying to allow kids who want to play football the opportunity to do so, regardless of the length of the season; and

I'm not that worked up (either way) about CFB - it certainly "helps" in that Stanford sucks again.  BUT, in truth, I think the protocols could be loosened substantially to allow for more games to be played and there would be no noticeable increase in "risk" to the competitors (and some immeasurable amount of risk to program outsiders). If that were the case and fewer (or not) games were being canceled, would you be asking the same question?  

Like the rest of this country, CFB is 'stumbling along.'  Maybe they finish; maybe they don't.  I'm not going to get too bent either way.

It is a bit of missing the forest for the trees (no reference to Stanford intended).  We have a runaway outbreak, with record new cases pretty much everywhere in the country, record hospitalizations (now taking up almost 1 in 10 of all staffed hospital beds in the country) and breaking 2000 deaths yesterday, the most since early May.  Sure, CFB can probably stumble along with maybe 1/4 of games being cancelled at any time, but in the bigger picture it is CFB covering their ears and shouting "lalalala I can't hear you", pretending things aren't bad and getting worse.  Remember, what we are seeing now is a reflection of infections that happened about a week ago; the hospitalizations are a results of infections that happened about two weeks ago, and the people dying got infected three weeks ago, so things are going to get worse before they get better.

Yes, the risk for football players is low, and AD's need money, but we are basically trying to pretend there is no pandemic going on.  Seriously, what the hell are we even doing?

Look, just because the numbers are going up doesn't mean risk-benefit is out the window.  Indeed, you're seeing more restrictions being imposed, presumably on that basis.  College football not on that list, yet.  You disagree with that evaluation.  Okay.  It doesn't move me much one way or the other.

Yeah, that basically summarizes it.  The whole point is to avoid a lockdown, so it seems like shedding stuff like college football and prioritizing things that carry that are most importance might be wiser.  It's not just athletics.  I mean, New York closed its schools but left bars open.  Go figure.  Our priorities are all messed up.

tOSU, Alabama, Clemson, Oregon and others in the top 10 will want to play for a CFP chance and probably will have the clout to get officials to carve out exceptions for football games.   While teams that have no real chance at a winning season will have less ability to drive over the concerns of team, school, county and state health officials.   I would not have guessed that Florida State would opt out of a game given the importance of their football brand to the school and their state's approach to COVID-19.   Still, if this type of thing happened at FSU then it could happen in a lot of places.

Since this was destined to be a butt-kicking, not sure how many FSU types were too broken up over it.

More of the story is coming into view now.

Clemson had an O-Line player test positive, but Clemson didn't get the test results until after their flight to FSU.  The concern for FSU then was the possibility of spread across the team and specifically during the flight.   Clemson assured FSU that all players and coaches were wearing N95 masks on the flight.   

FWIW - I have seen Clemson's approach to mask wearing during a number of games.   Let's just say there is a difference between people in the Clemson football program using N95 masks compared to the approach utilized by health care workers. 

Clemson officials then tried to offer a bunch of options to get FSU health officials more comfortable, but ultimately FSU said no to all of them.

I can't help but wonder if FSU was 8-0 instead of 2-6 would FSU found a way to get comfortable with Clemson's approach?   My guess is if FSU was 8-0 or 7-1 then this game would be played. 

If FSU in the lenient ACC and in football loving Florida with Gov DeSantis in charge can cancel a game, I am pretty confident it will happen again.

In addition to masks the Domer school needs to build a 20’ high fence around their field similar to the one I witnessed at the Argentine national stadium. They probably won’t need the soldiers present in B.A. with automatic rifles.

LOL, I grew up in Latin America; mostly in Venezuela but 3 years in Buenos Aires.  I was under 6 at the time, and it was the late 70's.  My father wanted to take me to a football (soccer) match, and asked around his work about getting tickets, and they said, "what are you trying to kill him?"

Imagine the Stanford band in their fruit projectile launching days, but doing so with glass beer bottles.

They can move the game to Woodside High School since San Mateo and SF are not included in the curfew.  Too bad Candlestick has been torn down.  Could they convert Oracle in time or would Breed nix that?

Last week, for the first time in 2020, the Pac-12 played its full slate of scheduled games. This week there are no Pac-12 cancellations so far, but Michigan-Ohio State has been canceled due to covid issues for the Wolverines. Per B1G rules, Ohio State will be ineligible for the B1G championship because the Buckeyes will have played too few games.

I highly doubt that.

Worst case, the conference just changes the eligibility rules.  No one would object in this season without rules.

Plus, they're likely one of the Top 5 teams in the country, so if you're going to have a CFP, then you might as well see if the best teams are available to play (or at least not DQ one of them from attempting to qualify).
