RE: Harbaugh in trouble again - Bruce Wang - 12-16-2020

The twists and turns of Captain Comeback's coaching career can perhaps be best explained by his reputation for not being the world's greatest evaluator of talent, but a strong motivator and Xs/Os guy.  Stanford hides his weakness because Stanford's recruiting pool is so limited - there aren't so many options for players at various positions.  If you aren't a great evaluator of talent but think you are, it's no wonder you have run-ins with an NFL GM and ownership.  When he showed up at Michigan, as an Ohio State fan (my other alma mater and home state team), I felt no fear precisely because I expected he would recruit the wrong players.

He's probably good for an NFL team that has underachieved its talent but don't expect him to be a long term solution.  His personality quickly wears down the players and the organization.  It turns out that Stanford may have been the best fit for him all along.

1.  Mick, to answer your question, no.  And as John noted, the inability to attract quality assistants based on Harbs' rep could be coming back to bite him.

2.  Not sure I agree that Stanford is the best fit for Harbaugh.  In one sense, Stanford is the "best fit" for lots of people (not named Wlat) - because you get high quality kids and the pressure to win is non-existent.  Shaw is clearly the best fit for Stanford, and it's not really close.  The problem is Shaw refuses to act like the CEO he should be and hire great, independent coordinators and empower them accordingly (and a sense of urgency needs to return to recruiting).   And the program is declining as a result.

Looks like Harbaugh may have a rough signing day. They've already lost two highly ranked recruits and look like they're about to lose a third.

LB Branden Jennings, No. 67 in ESPN 300, flips from Michigan to Maryland

The rumors about Harbaugh and Michigan parting ways must impact recruiting.
Of course, we have no such rumblings at Stanford, whose recruiting class (I suspect - will let Samuel and other aficionados confirm/correct) still is much better than Stanford's.
One alarming thing:  Stanford is losing kids actual admits to other schools.
