RE: WBB: STAN vs. OSU (ON NOW PAC-12 N) - 81alum - 03-05-2021

55-32 after 3.  Tara's strategy is now paying dividends.  OSU is visibly slower than it was at the start and we seem just as fast.

Brink having the best game of her career so far.  19 points off of very efficient shooting and 4 blocks.  5/7 free throws.

Jones 0/7, not her night so far.

RE: WBB: STAN vs. OSU (ON NOW PAC-12 N) - PVTree - 03-05-2021

20+ point lead after three. Game has been closer than the scoreboard suggests. Starters should get plenty of rest in the fourth quarter although tomorrow is an off day.

RE: WBB: STAN vs. OSU (ON NOW PAC-12 N) - TheFarm07 - 03-05-2021

We are going into the last ten minutes up 55-32 hanging our hats on three things: team defense, offensive rebounds and Brink's career game (so far in her collegiate career).

As a team, we are shooting a pedestrian 36% and 25% from long range, but the Beavers are only shooting 31% themselves. But our large lead is due to us getting 17 more shot opportunities thanks to 15 offensive rebounds.

Brink is having a great game: 19 points on 7/9 shooting and 10 rebounds, which makes up for Haley's poor showing (0/7 shooting, 2 turnovers)

Let's finish them off!

RE: WBB: STAN vs. OSU (ON NOW PAC-12 N) - BobK - 03-05-2021

I think Stanford is really good :). Jones with one point and Stanford up 23.
Brink with 19-10-4

RE: WBB: STAN vs. OSU (ON NOW PAC-12 N) - M T - 03-05-2021

15 OR for Stanford;  4 OR for OSU

RE: WBB: STAN vs. OSU (ON NOW PAC-12 N) - BostonCard - 03-05-2021

Three turnovers through 3+ quarters, compared to 13 for OSU.

Time for the subs.

RE: WBB: STAN vs. OSU (ON NOW PAC-12 N) - BostonCard - 03-05-2021

Brink now has 22 points and 10 rebounds.

RE: WBB: STAN vs. OSU (ON NOW PAC-12 N) - 81alum - 03-05-2021

Zounds.  A thirty point win (or more--there are minutes left!) over a high quality and hot team, and Jones scores only 1 point.  We really do have a revolving door of star shooters and we never know who will lead on any given night.  So nice to see Brink explode 24 points and 11 rebounds.

RE: WBB: STAN vs. OSU (ON NOW PAC-12 N) - BostonCard - 03-05-2021

OSU 45 - Brink and Williams 44

79 - 45 is the final.  After a slow first quarter, we turned on the afterburners.

Jones didn't play much in 2nd half. Jump gotta lot more minutes

RE: WBB: STAN 79 OSU 45 - 81alum - 03-05-2021

I feel so vindicated that we exceeded even my rosy, optimistic analysis that had us winning by 30+ points.  [I am actually feeling sheepish.]

RE: WBB: STAN 79 OSU 45 - martyup - 03-05-2021

I wonder if the official stats will give Brink more blocks.  She had 4 in the 1st half, but they still show only 4.  I know she had 2 in the 2nd half.

The Hulls were 5-5 from beyond the arc.

RE: WBB: STAN vs. OSU (ON NOW PAC-12 N) - TheFarm07 - 03-05-2021

We win 79-45; a great victory. I was not expecting this margin of victory. Oregon State had been playing very well and I thought we could slow them down, but not stop them. I was thinking we could stop a couple of their shooters but not all of them, but we seemingly did that.

We held them to 32% shooting as a team and none of their players had particularly good performances:

And on top of this, we did not shoot extraordinarily well, less than 40% (we shot better from long range - 43%) and Haley Jones had a forgettable night (1 point on 0/7 shooting, 2 turnovers), but Cameron had her best game in a Stanford uniform yet to make up for it: 24 points (9/13 shooting), 11 rebounds and Kiana added 20 points (7/19 shooting) with 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

But this was a team effort: Kiana and Cameron shined on the stats sheet, but let's not forget that it was everyone's defense holding down the Beavers offense. It might not show on the stats sheet, but the Hull sisters and Anna played great defense on the multitude of shooters that Oregon State can throw at you.

The Beavers are still a dangerous team; I think they can make a run in the NCAA tournament.

RE: WBB: STAN 79 OSU 45 - martyup - 03-05-2021

I feel foolish that I was worried when we were down by 3 in the 1st quarter.

I don't think it was just you; I always hope for a blowout, but the Beavers have really impressed me and I was predicting a margin of victory around 7-12 points myself.

I am pleasantly surprised and now we have a day of rest to get ready. It's nice to have the early game, take care of business and sit back and watch our two potential finals opponents have to battle it out.

Rooting for multiple overtimes for the Arizona/UCLA game.

I think I am hoping to play UCLA.  It would be good to see if we can correct our earlier demons and decisively defeat them.  Playing them would probably do more to help us get ready for the NCAAs than playing Arizona for the third time.  Despite Arizona's superb record, UCLA seems like the greater challenge to me--but at this point I am not hoping for the easiest path, but the path that does the most to get us ready for tough competition in the later rounds of the NCAAs.  Having won the regular season, winning the Pac 12 tourney championship is not as important to me as increasing our odds of a national championship.

There--I talked myself into having a side to cheer for in an hour.

Co-signing this; I agree, we need the most challenging opponent who will expose our weaknesses so we can know what we need to work on for the NCAA tournament. As a bonus, it will take a little sting out of losing to the Bruins if we can beat them in the finals. We made so many mistakes in that loss and still had a chance to win the game at the end; I think if we play well, I would favor us against either team.
