Stanford, now #24 RPI, takes 2 out of 3 from UCLA, which I will take every time.
After a really-need-to-win Wednesday home game vs #187 Pacific, Stanford travels to #28 ASU this weekend.
Stanford leads the conference in slugging percentage and home runs, despite the fact that we are tied for fewest games played.
Team ERA is now 4.53, which is good for 8th in conference out of 11. The good news is that Stanford's opponents to-date have an ERA of 6.75 versus Stanford.

Stanford baseball blanked Pacific 2-0 last night, which was critical in the no-more-bad-losses category. Also, it was the first time this season that Stanford scored fewer than 3 runs and won (0-4 previously).
Stanford's RPI actually dropped a spot to 26 with the win--imagine what would have happened if we lost!
So it's on to #29 Arizona State this weekend, a Wednesday trap game at #193 Pacific and then at home versus #151 Washington next weekend.

Tough start vs ASU as the bullpen collapsed. Even (and particularly) Grech, who took the loss going 1/3 inning giving up 3 hits, a HBP and 4 earned runs.
Team also left 10 on base.

We evened the series tonight by winning a 5-hour, 12-inning marathon, 11-9. Not a good start as we gave up 8 runs in the first four innings, but hats off to Palisch, Pancer, and O'Rourke for throwing seven scoreless innings after that. Grech gave up a run in the 12th but still got the save.

That was a crazy game, with particularly ridiculous endings to the ASU threats in the bottom of the 11th (out at home trying to come in on a wild pitch) and the 12th (potential tying run caught in a pickle after driving in a run).
Was heartened by Palisch's outing, easily his longest of the year so far. Went 3 and third, gave up 2 hits, 1 walk, no runs - and looked in control.
Another odd stat that doesn't usually lead to winning: Stanford was 0-9 with two outs (other three innings ended on double plays). ASU was 8-16 and drove in 7 of their 9 runs with two outs.

Stanford's record is now 22-7, conference record 8-4.

Williams with 3 earned runs over 3.2 innings, with 4 strikeouts and no walks, WPs or HBPs, so that's progress.
Tawa of Pawa with a grand slam in the ninth to give us a comfortable margin. Bowser and Robinson each with a home run.

What a difference a year makes! Stanford has series wins over Santa Clara, San Francisco, UC Irvine, Utah, Fresno State, Washington State, UCLA and Arizona State.
Per Warren Nolan, Stanford (unofficial) RPI is #22. Game on Wednesday at #204 Pacific and a home series next weekend versus #123 Washington.
Pitching is still shaky at times, but the power hitting has been locked in. Still some really tough series in the final month of the season, but I'm excited to see what this team can do.

Damn. That sucks. Stanford as a whole has done a really good job with their COVID prevention efforts but it is basically impossible to be perfect especially as some give up on precautions early. This thing is not over yet and I hope everyone in the program is ok and comes through without any serious effects.

Now that vaccinations are available to everyone 16 and above, I hope that everyone is getting vaccinated as soon as an appointment is available.

I, too, wish whoever is infected/affected a speedy recovery and good health. A related question: are Stanford athletes now being vaccinated? I have no idea what the supply is like in Santa Clara County or on campus.

I was able to get my 16-year-old son a vaccine appointment last Saturday through Stanford Health, so my sense is that supply is available.

That's great news, Baseballjunkie. My son is only 14 so has to wait for approval (maybe in a couple of months?). In the meantime, he's playing both Little League and club, and we're doing everything we can to protect him so that he can continue to play.
