We can go back even further than that. Try 7 in the last 4 years: KZ+Davis, Ryan+Wills, Terry+Jones, Ziaire. I'd be hard-pressed not to pencil Ingram or Silva in somewhere. If Wills goes, my bet would be one of them at the 2 unless Noah Taitz makes a jump.

Kisunas should play plenty, and OF is right that at worst he's a big body who plays solid D and is worth 5 fouls. The real let-down for me was Keefe becoming a total nothing-burger after showing a little something as a freshman. (I didn't expect anything from Fitzmorris so I can't really say I'm let down by him.) I really hope the Rutgers transfer Myles Johnson ends up coming.

That said, the entire Final Four shows you don't need someone taller than 6'10" in the rotation to go all the way. In fact, only Gonzaga and Baylor have one rotational player each who is 6'10". In Gonzaga's case, it's their super stud Timme (who is surrounded by very very good guards and wings), and Baylor's 6'10" guy only plays 14.5 mpg. It really looks like while a good tall big is nice, it's not necessary.

To be clear, freshmen can and often do start, but that’s not something I would count on. Lord knows we have enough holes that if a freshman is capable, he can certainly help. Mostly I took issue with OF putting Silva, a highly rated recruit who still has not played collegiate basketball, ahead of O’Connell, who has some starter experience and has acquitted himself reasonably well.

My somewhat perfunctory assessment is Silva is going to be very good as soon as he arrives on campus, and better than O'Connell.

He may well be better, but he is going to have to prove it. It is difficult to project how quickly a Freshman can adapt to his new circumstances. I hope we have the luxury of two real good point guards, but until it happens...

Never hurts to have two on the court at the same time, too. You can never have too many guys who can handle the ball well.

I'm higher on Silva than probably most on this board but I do not think he will start from day 1 over MOC and Wills. It is also important to note that he left Prolific Prep after just a month to return to Jesuit because the competition level was too much for him and he didn't play well. 247 dropped him in their rankings as a result.

It does if they can't score. You can handle the ball for the entire shot clock, but eventually you need to score some points. Stanford hasn't done so well at that. I have some hopes that Taitz can do some long range shooting, because IMHO that is what we really need and haven't had. Without Da Silva's offense we are going to need a big boost in that area. Hopefully Delaire can give us some of it, but we need another option as well as somebody who can hit a shot when the clock is running down and we haven't created anything.

I don't doubt that. However, we need a guy who can shoot a three and create his own shot. If you are real good from deep, creating isn't as hard as they usually won't guard you out there until you prove they need to. If you prove that, it should leave "holes" for others.
