Wow. Julia Heymach finishes 6th and crushes the school record by 5 seconds with a 4:04.85 in the 1500. A great run and a great way to cap off an amazing season.
Also, Rebecca Mehra in 11th in 4:08.47.

Elise Cranny wins the 5000 in 15:27.81, with the fastest last lap. She punches her ticket to Tokyo.
Vanessa Fraser finishes 13th.

In 94 degree heat.
Is everyone on the Stanford track team eligible for another year due to Covid?

If she comes back she will be the favorite for the 1500 title next year.
And maybe the 5000 as well.

That was a shocking race by Heymach. She had to run heats, semis, and then goes out and runs a ridiculous PR.
I feel pretty good about my Purrier and Cranny predictions above.

This seems to be how Heymach likes to run. You could see this coming with her 5,000 performance a few weeks ago. I think she is just now getting near her potential. I hope she comes back as I think she can put the school record in near untouchable territory, but I can understand the possible desire to move on with her life and maybe start making some money from her talent. It seems to me the coaches are starting to get her in touch with her real talent.

I really think we will hear Heymach signing a contract soon but like others sure hope she returns. We have a chance at a XC title if some Srs stay. Yes I’m being selfish

That record may be untouchable now. Stanford counts records run in the summer after senior year, IIRC.

Records are made to be broken, but this one may last a while. That said, she is till several seconds out of elite 1500 m territory. You can't go into the last lap with that kind of competition and kick your way to victory, all the top runners have some kick. Plus the truly elite female 1500 meter runners are 10 seconds faster than she is at this point. This brings up the question of what is her best distance. This is I am sure still being sorted out, but the 5,000 may be her best event.
It will be interesting to see how her career goes, she is fun to watch racing.

Depends on what you mean by truly elite. In the USA truly elite is around 4 minutes flat. (Well, she placed 6th, so I guess 4:04 is elite at the moment). Internationally it's about 3:56.
Most younger runners are not ready for the 5000. As she gets older she'll likely go longer. Assuming she continues the sport.

That 21.61 by Gabrielle Thomas in the W 200m was probably the fastest non drug assisted 200m ever run.
Harvard grad, by the way.

Gotta love Gabby Thomas. She graduated from Harvard in 2019 with a degree in neurobiology and global health and health policy. After graduating from Harvard and turning pro, the goal was competing at the Tokyo Olympics. When the pandemic caused the Olympics to be postponed by a year, Thomas decided it was “as good a time as any to just start graduate school.” She enrolled in a Master’s program at the University of Texas, where she is currently studying epidemiology and healthcare management...while training for the Olympic Trials.
Thomas is still aiming for the Tokyo Olympics, though she had her own health-related scare earlier this spring, which she tweeted about on at the beginning of June. According to Thomas, her hamstring began hurting in May. When the results of her MRI came back, she was told she had a tumor in her liver. “At first, I was calm…” she wrote. “But the more and more I spoke to people, the more the word “cancer” was used. I was scared.” Just three weeks ago, Thomas says she finally received the news that the tumor is benign and won’t need to be operated on.
