Singles quarterfinals up next. Ma is just getting going on Court 1, Court 2 is open, and that's Fortin (UW) and Kozyreva (SMC) on Court 3. (Court 4 is the invitational singles final, not the main draw.)
Ma breaks to open her match, and if form holds, there will be more where that came from. This may come as a shock to you, but Ma's really good, you guys.
Yepifanova-Wong is on Court 2, and Blake-Alsola is on Court 5.

Appreciate all the commentary. It looked like Ma/Blake won their doubles. Caught the end of it and it looked like a good match.

Thankfully, the chair umpire on Court 2 has been updating the score after each game, and Yepifanova just took the first set 6-4 over top seed Vanessa Wong! She's quickly broken to start the second, though. She went up 0-40 on Wong's serve, but Wong then won four straight to go up 2-0 there. Big missed opportunity to level the set and stay on the front foot there. Yepifanova seems to be frustrated with some line calls, but they've all looked fine to me. She held for 1-2, so she needs to find a break here.
Ma just flipped her scores and I think she's up a set and up 4-1 in the second set. But she seems to be cruising whenever I've flipped over to that match.
And Ma is through to the semis with a quick win!

Is Wong having a mental breakdown? She seems pretty frustrated. I can't tell the score, but it looks like Alexandra
Yepifanova is beating her.
I just heard them call 4-3 in the second set. But, who has the 4?

I think Wong is up 4-3. Yepifanova went from 0-2 down to 3-2 up, but Wong won two games leading into the last changeover that aren't reflected right now.

Now 5-4 Yepi!

Looks like Yepifanova is back up 5-4! Wong will serve to stay alive here (I think).
5-5 now. Great game of tennis on Wong's serve just now.

Yepi had match point on Wong's serve and couldn't close her out. But she took the next game to go up 6-5. Must break Wong to win it.

Kind of a tight service game from Yepifanova. She's not finding her first serve now. But she pulls it out anyway! 6-5 now, with Wong trying to force a tiebreaker.

Wong holds serve. Now 6-6

Tiebreaker! Up 1-0.

I think Yepi is up 4-2 on the tie breaker.
And Yepi takes out the #1 seed in a 2nd set tie breaker 7-3!! All right now!
Anyone know how Blake is doing on court 5?

What a win for Alexandra Yepifanova! Knocks off the top-seeded and 14th-ranked Vanessa Wong 6-4, 7-6, and she's into the semifinals! The possibility for an all-Stanford-frosh final remains alive! Angelica Blake might still have something to say about that, however--she's playing on Court 5, though I have no idea what the score is.
I glanced once, saw them playing, and then was on the phone for one single minute, and I looked back and Blake was already off court. So, it's over, but I don't know the result.

No tweet yet from the Stanford women's tennis account about Blake.

Also, on the doubles side:

So, we have half the semi-finals in both singles and doubles.

Sadly, Blake fell short in three sets.

Woof, that is an ugly three-set scoreline.

It’ll be an all-Stanford doubles final as Blake/Ma beat third-seeded Cal’s Alsola/Richardson in a tiebreaker, while Madurawe/Yepifanova win 8-6 over an unseeded pair.
RE: Women's Tennis: Northwest Regionals -
ColoradoTree - 10-26-2021
Well, if we wanted a test for our freshmen, we sure got one. Yepifanova knocked off the #1 seed, and her reward is fellow freshman Jessica Alsola of Cal. Yepifanova was a top 2 recruit her entire high school career, and she’s got the national titles and big time results that whole time to warrant it. While Alsola didn’t really make a splash until her junior year, her star really started to rise the past year, and she peaked at #2 in the recruiting rankings, right where Yepifanova has been the whole time. I was disappointed with Blake’s result against her, and not just for Blake, but for what it means for our team this year. Alsola probably slides into #2 singles behind Giavara, pushing Rosenqvist to #3, Ivanov to #4, Bui to #5, and Viller Moeller to #6. That’s such a deep lineup, and if we want to regain the upper hand over Cal, we need
our 2 to beat their 2.
It’s early, but I think if Gordon doesn’t play, then Yepifanova is our #2 behind Ma, pushing Blake to 3, sliding in Xu at 4, Geller going from 3 to 5, and Choy playing 6. That’s a much improved lineup over last year, but is it better than Cal? We got a discouraging data point from the Blake loss today, but we could get an encouraging one tomorrow with a Yepifanova win.
And in the other semifinal, no big deal, just a freshman against a 5th year, top 50 player. Connie Ma against Kozyreva should be a terrific one, and I can’t wait to see it.

Looks like the singles semifinals are scheduled for 10:00am, with the singles final at 1:00pm. The doubles final is also at 1:00, but one nice thing about an all-Stanford doubles final is you can fit it in whenever you’d like and whenever Ma and Yepifanova are suitably rested. Perhaps today is the day we can get functioning live scoring, but if we couldn’t manage it for the singles quarters, I’m not holding my breath.
RE: Women's Tennis: Northwest Regionals -
ColoradoTree - 10-26-2021
Ma-Kozyreva is on Court 1. Ma had been up an early break, but Kozyreva broke to level at 3-3 and get it back on serve. Ma just broke back, though, putting her up 4-3.
Yepifanova-Alsola is on Court 2, where Yepifanova is up a double break, leading 5-2 in the first. She'll serve to close that set out next.
And there's the first set for Yepifanova, 6-2! Really high level of play from her so far, and it's exciting to see. But Alsola dropped her first set against Blake 6-1, so perhaps she's a slow starter and still needs to get herself into it.
FYI, Ma's scores are the green on white background, while Yepifanova's are white on green background.
Ma just went from 40-15 up on her serve to a deciding point for Kozyreva and Ma sent a forehand long to drop another service game. 4-4 there. Can she break back again?
She does! Ma leads 5-4 and will serve for the first set next. Can she hold here where it counts?
Yepifanova leads 6-2, 0-2 (she just served up 40-30, but double faulted twice in a row to give Alsola the game--that's the first real service hiccup for Yepifanova, who has otherwise been terrific)
Ma holds for the first set, 6-4!
And Yepifanova responds with a blistering return game to break right back and get the set back on serve. That was
outstanding returning. Pouncing on the ball and using angles beautifully.

It looks like Yepi is through! 6-2 6-4 over Alsola.
