BTW, the announcers said the reason for the initial 15 minute start delay was that Stanford was not happy with WSU's testing so they were made to test again. Unfortunately one of the new tests failed so another round had to be administered which caused the additional delay.

A 23-0 run gave us a 54-42 lead, and we were able to hang on to a 62-57 win.
MOC seems to miss many end of game free throws. We need to have 2+ reliable free throw shooters to close out games. Ingram and Delaire (Jones) may be the most reliable at game's end.

The point guards are your biggest weakness. Not beating the shot clock is a mortal sin. The league is weak and Stanford can probably everybody but UCLA. They can probably lose to everybody too. NIT or bust!

That was winning ugly, but a win none the less. I joined the game when we were down by 12 and I almost turned it off. Nice defense and hustle, but the turtle at the end was not good. It would have let a better team back in the game to beat us. We need to be able to take care of the ball and shoot free throws. I was surprised to see Mcconnell make so many mistakes in the final minutes. We need this team to keep building and make the Dance. It's been way too long. Will be good to see how they show up against UofA.

What an in-game complete team turnaround . . . by both teams. We started playing solid D and team offense while they stopped being able to put the ball in the basket. I think I heard that we went on a 23-0 run.
However, with about 4 minutes to play, the refs decided that WSU had to win. However, I guess the refs' Palouse payroll wasn't quite enough for the Cougs to pull off the comeback. Boy did those refs give it a try. I never seen so many one sided calls like we did at the end of this game. It was at the level of corruption. I couldn't tell if it was just one or two of the refs, or all of them. They made a 10 second call on us at 8 seconds. I replayed it several times to confirm. A coug player tripped on his own trying to drive to the basket and one of our players was called for a foul. Even the announcers had to call BS on that one. Ingram was dribbling up the court when a Coug player ran into his path and they called charging. There needs to be an investigation. Utter corruption.

Delaire seemed to shoot FTs well last year (After being pretty bad the first 2 years), but he's regressed this year. Ingram is almost an 80% shooter, so keep him in. Jones has improved greatly from his career average (when he used to shoot 50%, I believe).
Note, other than the 80% number everything else is based on possibly incorrect memory and impression. =)
Who else can be in at the end to shoot FTs? Angel? Taitz? Definitely not our two upperclass centers.

Big game for Angel. He scored 16, got 3 steals, and pulled down 3 rebounds.

Delaire going 5/7 (71%) was actually an improvement on his indeed regressed FT shooting this season. Though the regression isn't horrific (MOC's regression is indeed horrific, and Keefe is just laughably bad), and he's getting to the line way more. He is now averaging as many FTs made per game this year as he was FTs ATTEMPTED per game last year.
Max Murrell has missed exactly one FT in his entire career (small-ish, but significant enough, sample size). Angel is now shooting 74% on the season. Taitz 73%. It seems the problem is Murrell and Taitz can't be trusted enough to play defense.
Angel's emergence as a bonafide 6th man bodes well. He's averaging 12 points (shooting 58% from 3!!!) and 4 rebounds in 22mpg over the last 6 games, and from what I've seen plays pretty good D.

Cougs made an error when they didn't foul Keefe who was in the game at the end. They needed made free throws at the time, not so much rebounds.

Keefe has been a bit better on FTs on the conference games (7-12). But you're right that he shouldn't have been in the game at the end. That's because we needed our "hands" team in at that point. You have to sub Keefe for Silva or Taitz in the final minutes. Haase is still bad at these endgame situations.
Anyway, my two cents on the game is that we were about equally lucky and good. Wazzu missed a ton of open shots, and we couldn't put them away despite the 23-0 run. We still have work to do on turnovers, free throws, and positioning on defense.

Fun to see the Haas speech. I take it "a third night in Pullman" was sarcasm. I take it all the delays in playing that game made us spend more nights in Pullman than expected!

This team may well be better than I expected, but given that Haase teams seem to fade toward the end of the season, jury's still out on that one.
