St. Petes is no joke.

There are no great teams anymore. It’s a crapshoot.  Hoping UCLA loses but they probably won’t. And they will beat St Pete’s and walts into the final four having not beaten any team higher than a five seed. And let’s face it, St. Marys wasn’t that good . Pisses me off. I don’t give a crap that it’s a Pac-12 team. I’m not rooting for any team from Los Angeles. Period.

RE: MBB: March Madness - BostonCard - 03-25-2022

Rest easy, Lex, UCLA lost.

Thank you hoops gods for sending UCLA packing!

Now we get what America wants - UNC playing St. Peter's for Final Four berth, and possibility of UNC vs. Duke in Final Four for first time ever.

Duke better not lose to Arkansas!

Still believe Duke is cutting down the nets.

RE: MBB: March Madness - 2006alum - 03-26-2022

FWIW, anyone who cares about PAC-12 financial viability should be rooting for every single PAC-12 MBB in the tournament, because March Madness revenue is largely allocated by tournament success of each conference's teams, collectively. No good comes from a PAC-12 wipeout before the second weekend ends, IMHO. And truly, a conference's overall payments can vary by several million dollars per school in a given year, depending on tournament success. This is no small deal.

Three members of basketball royalty in the FF.  Duke- NC.  Love it.  Hoping Duke wins it.  Sure you all are too.  :)

RE: MBB: March Madness - Phogge - 03-28-2022

Sorry Lex, I detest the blue bloods. Personal experience. Dean Smith was one of the biggest p***** in sports. Coach K a bit of a phony.

Plus just about every member of the NCAA staff. Even though we were working for THEM they put roadblocks in our way every night. I so hope that one day Congress cuts their balls off.

Of course I root for the underdog. Obvious since I’m a Stanford fan.

And Villanova is at least royalty-adjacent, IMO, with 3 national championships.

Villanova MBB is the equivalent of Clemson FB. People think they're a blue-blood because of (incredible) recent success.

Doesn't change the fact that this year's Final Four is the equivalent of what the CFP has been since inception. Yawn. They don't get my eyeballs.

I suspect this is "perfect storm" for NCAA from a $$ maximization front:  lots of early upsets, a Cinderella story through Elite 8, and then a Final Four of the bluebloods who capture the most ratings eyeballs (yours n/w/s).

RE: MBB: March Madness - OutsiderFan - 03-28-2022

What a bummer for Villanova, to lose their second leading scorer to torn achilles in the final minute of a game they had already won to get to Final Four. Kansas isn't feeling sorry for them, but given it is Kansas, UNC, and Duke in the Finals, I am.

I agree. The NCAA doesn’t care if people are hate-watching Duke; they get the eyeballs they want.

UNC-Duke is all that and more.  1 minute left, and I think the 16th lead change.

Great game.Duke has four lottery picks. NC, this year, has one player who was in top 40 I think. Rooting for NC.

RE: MBB: March Madness - WindyCityCard - 04-02-2022

So happy to see the end of the Coach K era.  Of course, the hagiographic BS will continue.

RE: MBB: March Madness - old spanish trail - 04-02-2022

Btw, GR's beloved Kentucky team spit the bit early. The NCAA tournaments on both women's and men's side is terrific. Of course we remember the times that NC players didn't go to class, etc.

RE: MBB: March Madness - BostonCard - 04-02-2022

Yeah, not sad to see the back of coach K. I think it somewhat chapped my hide that Duke wrapped itself in the academic reputation of the school, while the basketball team has essentially minimal academic qualifications.

One of the great college coaches.  Great game.  Duke just didn’t shoot it well.  Lovevis terrific.

RE: MBB: March Madness - JohnR34231 - 04-03-2022

Took my kids to a Duke basketball camp one summer. Coach K couldn't have been nicer. It was hard for me to dislike him after that.

There are a lot of big name schools having near-zero qualifications for their super-stud athletes and touting their academics. They just never had K for a MBB coach. He has more than earned the plaudits and bouquets, not to mention the true reverence of his former athletes. I'm just gratified that a first-year HC will play for the championship against a top-drawer opponent.

RE: MBB: March Madness - BostonCard - 04-04-2022

Interesting that alumni, fans, and donors had pressured the AD to fire coach K back in 1984.

Is it possible that Haase will turn out to be a great coach and that we are Duke va 1984?
