From time to time Tara flips Brink and Jones and has Brink at the elbow passing to Jones at the post. This works especially well if Brink hits some short to midrange jumpers and pulls the UConn post out to her, and it minimizes her chances to get offensive fouls. I'd like to see that, perhaps starting in the second half.
When Brink is on defense, she needs to keep her arms straight up against anyone equal in height to her like Nelson-Ododa and realize it is better to give up two points than to collect one foul. We need to prevent UConn from getting the ball inside in the first place. Hopefully she will have some help to prevent any bigs from going around her. For shorter players attacking the paint Brink can afford to be a little more aggressive in blocking mode.

In our 3 big lineups (Brink, Jones + Belibi or Brink, Jones + Iriafen) it will be Belibi or Iriafen who end up getting defended by a UConn guard. They will then have to do their best to take advantage of that situation and score. Belibi is definitely more experienced but sometimes can be prone to getting called for an offensive foul. Iriafen is less familiar with where she should be in the overall offense/defense but I really like her ability to score 1:1 in the post vs a guard.

We may see more of Prechtel than usual. Edwards is hefty and strong and doesn't hesitate to use her body to move opponents - and from what I saw in the NC State game, the refs let her get away with some pretty excessive physical play. She is able to push around Brink, Kiki, and even Fran. That's not to say that those 3 won't play lots of minutes, only that Ashten will be also needed, even if to take a few fouls as Edwards is not a good FT shooter.

Nobody prepares better than Tara. The longer she has, the better we will do. We should be wishing we had even more days!
Seriously, Tara and the staff need to prepare 3 really, really good scouting reports this week. If one of the 3 is not perfect and we play that team, then our chances to repeat go down the drain. Therefore, I wish we had even MORE time before we play.

The match-ups of this Final Four reminds me of similar Final Four match-ups back in 2013, with Breanna Stewart-led UConn vs. Chiney OGWUMIKE-led Stanford in one National Semifinal game while Louisville was the underdog vs. the #1 team (Baylor, which is equivalent to this season's #1 team South Carolina) with the most dominant player (GRINER, who is equivalent to this year's top player Aaliyah BOSTON) in the nation. In that series, UConn easily won over Stanford while Louisville (led by PG Shoni SCHIMMEL, the equivalent of their current PG Haley VAN LITH) upset Baylor.
I hope this year's version will have the exact opposite result, at least in the Stanford-UConn game.

Another bit of memory lane relevant to the Stanford-UConn game. The last time the W FF was in Minneapolis was 1995. Stanford played UConn in the semis. UConn -- led by Rebecca Lobo and Kara Wolters -- won and went on to win the whole thing, their very first national championship. Let's not have a repeat of that storyline as well!

I recall seeing a TV game of Stanford vs UConn a number of years ago and noting how much more athletic they looked than we did. I don't think that's the case any more.

Agree that athletically Stanford can hang with UConn (though Williams and Westbrook are very high on Q&A meter, probably better than anything we have). It's the skillset - namely shooting the ball from beyond 5 feet - where UConn may have the advantage. I'm hoping any such advantage will prove insufficient to win the game. But I'm not confident going into this one - nor should any remaining team fan base be confident. (I can see a way where SC wins comfortably . . . but "winning comfortably" against Louisville strikes me as oxymoronic, and think that one could be a barnburner, too).

A Pair of All-Americans!
Cameron Brink and Haley Jones were each named to the 10-player WBCA All-America list on Thursday, marking the first time Stanford has had two All-Americans on the same team since Chiney and Nnemkadi Ogwumike in 2012.

If you didn’t notice, the CNN article that I referenced about UConn and Stanford had one picture of Tara, one of Gino, but two of Dawn.
