Pro WBB is at best a waystop on the pathway from college to some other career.  No one retires completely after a pro WBB career.  This is a fabulous reason to do your college WBB at Stanford.  Sure, retired WNBA players often coach, but Kate Starbird had more choices.

Starbird is atypical even amongst Stanford WBB alums; maybe her classmate Jamila Wideman is a better example of someone whose Stanford degree helped pave the way for a career after professional basketball (after a career in the WNBA, Wideman went to law school and now is VP for player development in the WNBA front office).

Lexie started Indiana's pre-season game against Chicago tonight; she had a rough shooting night (0/6, including 0/2 from three point range, her only point came from the FT line - 1/3).

But as she usually does, even without scoring, she can fill up the box score. She had 4 rebounds (2 offensive, 2 defensive), 4 assists, 2 steals and a block. She also played 27 minutes, which is promising, considering coaches are still trying out rookies and new additions in these pre-season games.

Alanna also started for the Fever; she played 13 minutes, but was 3/7 from the floor for 6 points with 5 rebounds.

This is not looking good for Lexie.  A combined 0/16 FG and 0/10 3-pt in two games is not gonna cut it.

This is not looking good for Lexie.  A combined 0/16 FG and 0/10 3-pt in two games is not gonna cut it.

Hopefully she pulls out of her slump before it is too late.

I do wish the best for Lexie and hope she pulls out of this slump.  However, it has long been her m.o.  One could always count on her defense and her hustle, and depending on the matchup and whether she was "in the zone" she would either be an offensive storm or she would recede.  She had a very high level of variance on offense.  I think we are going to miss her mainly for her defense, since although her offense could be spectacular, we could never really count on it game in and game out.

Yeah, against most teams we could compensate for it if Lexie was having an off night shooting. Against final four teams we couldn't.

I will always remember Lexie as a great Stanford player sure not always 30 points as if that was a fault

I'm not sure if anyone will ever be able to supplant Lexie as my all-time favorite Stanford hoops player, men's or women's. Every time there was a contested ball somewhere on the floor, I'd spit out -- as if giving a border collie permission to go herd sheep -- Lexie! Her success rate was unbelievable. Amazingly she rarely got tied up after getting the ball, but she started and maintained her dribble while rolling around, whipping around a quick outlet pass to get things moving quickly, etc. I'll invariably remember her with a mouth guard and some tissue up one nostril. I wonder how many teeth Lexie and Lacie lost before their parents made mouthpieces mandatory.

Sure, her shooting was streaky, but not her defense and hustle. Some of the most speedy and ferocious double teams I've ever seen in the post. An incredible number offensive rebounds that she had no business getting to. Great reads, passes, cuts, movement without the ball, etc.

I was already lamenting the graduation of the Hulls (I'm glad Lacie got her due in her last year -- and her ascendancy at PG and as a 3-pt shooter was often overlooked) when they were just frosh. They are truly irreplaceable -- and if I were an underclassman, their work ethic would be the best possible example to inspire me to improve my game.

Lexie is a a winner regardless of what happens to her in the WNBA.

The Hulls had something that you cannot teach. They were like pool players and new the angles and how a ball was coming off the rim. They would get to a ball before players standing right there could react. I remember one play when Lexie was out by the 3 point line at the top of the key. A ball was going out of bounds under the net. Lexie went after it and jumped out of bounds, caught the ball and threw it off the leg of a player on the other team for a Stanford ball. I don't know many  players who could have made that play. She and Laci will surely be missed for toughness and hustle, and smarts. I don't know how they survived 4 years with their lean bodies.

current roster for Indiana, but Whalen, Holliday, and Allen just waived. that leaves 12 - which I believe is roster limit. Rosters have to be set 48 hours prior to 1st game
