Thanks for posting. Call me not surprised. Texas is looking darn good for this upcoming season. They also picked up Oregon State transfer Taylor Jones from the portal. Wonder if we keep them on our nonconference schedule. I’m thinking not. Hoping for more schedule updates in the next month. Haven’t seen too many schools release their nonconference yet.

Yeah, I just don't know why anyone would want to play for either of them.

Think was here -- though a TX poster on UConn's Boneyard had implied this was likely. Maybe she wants to beat us badly if we turned her down once and then again it did not work for grad school. Who knows what drives folks, but I have to say I lost any respect I had for him earlier in his career last season.

Can anyone confirm any of the following:  Was Shaylee ever interested in playing at Stanford once she entered the portal?  Was Stanford ever interested in Shaylee and 1) was offered a graduate scholarship that Shaylee declined or 2) There was an academic problem in offering Shaylee a graduate scholarship?  OR- Shaylee never considered Stanford and Stanford never considered Shaylee in the first place?  Implications via message boards may offer clues, but do not represent evidence.  Part of not knowing is my fault.  I met Shaylee's mom several seasons ago at a BYU game in Provo, but never stayed in touch and not building a relationship where I could reach out and learn what the heck happened and why.

She is an awesome talent and Texas just elevated themselves again.

Gonzales didn’t enter the portal until the new BYU coach was hired which was after May 1. That’s very late to be applying to a Stanford grad school and doubt she could have done all the work to apply until June. So we don’t know but my guess by then Stanford was a possibility

I suspect Stanford would have loved to have her. But all I know

The South Carolina game Nov 20 at Stanford

Cam will play power forward this season (and next) to take advantage of her emerging multiple skill sets, which means we will probably see Prechtel in the post, at least for this game, defending Boston (you need size, length and strength against her) with Betts playing significant minutes.  My way-too-early keys to the game:  Minimize Boston's offense; Get the ball to our two All-Americans early and often; Cam must play 28-30 minutes; more defensive pressure on the perimeter and REBOUND.

Seems like Boston has been around forever.  The best defense against her is to wait for her to go pro, LOL.

IMHO Prechtel is a 3 trapped in a post's body.  I hope she continues to improve inside.  Let's not forget her shooting saved us a couple of years ago.

For me, with the addition of SF Sonya MORRIS (from DePaul 17.6 ppg last season), PF/C Taylor JONES (from OSU) and PG Shaylee GONZALES (from BYU, 2nd Team AA, 18.3 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 4.5 apg, 2.3 spg), Texas has positioned itself as the pre-season 4th Final Four team together with South Carolina, UConn and Stanford. In my opinion, the addition of these three transfers makes Texas even a more complete team than Stanford,  with established players in all positions, while Stanford still as a big question mark with their PG play.

Our best players are mostly 4's and 5's so the coaches will have to figure out a way to keep those players on the floor without losing spacing on offense.  Good defensive teams will just sag on defense making it hard for a player like Jones to drive or Belibi/Brink/Betts to utilize their post moves because there will always be a second or third defender near by.  Belibi is a 4 and Betts is a 5.  And Brink and Iriafen can play either 4 or 5.  I think those are the majority of our post minutes.  Jones mostly played as a 4 last year so she will likely shift to the 3.  However, we could also see her move to PG.  I think the other two positions go to our best shooters because we absolutely need the spacing.  If her defense holds up and she doesn't get tired, Jump might never leave the floor since she is by far our best shooter.  Then I think we will see Demetre and Prechtel get a lot of minutes as the second shooter.  Neither of them are threats to drive from the perimeter but that's ok because we tend to pass into the post vs drive and then pass anyways.  And Demetre and Prechtel have a lot of size to see over the defense to make said passes.  The final player will probably be a freshman/redshirt freshman ball handler (Nivar, Lepolo, Harriel) to give Jones some help bringing up the ball against pressure.  Bosgana might be able to fill this role if she can minimize her turnovers.

I understand the challenges of scheduling, but I wish this game could have been scheduled in December and not November 20th.  Practice is one thing, but our team- with new faces, certainly a new starting lineup and new plays (some likely designed for Brink who's now at a 4) - needs game experience.  I think we can all agree that last season we were not ready for Texas after playing a meaningless exhibition game and a small Morgan State team.  I'm not sure how many games we will play before South Carolina, but I hope one or two of them will be against some good opposition.

Agree totally about Jump and spacing.  Let's hope Jump can have one of her better games on Nov. 20th.

I know Tara loves defensive teams and the Hulls + Wilson were great defenders but I’m hoping next year we see more offense for defense.  For example that would mean more time for a player like Demetre (good shooter but not great lateral quickness) vs Emma-Nnopu (great defender on par with the Hulls but not an established scorer).  It’s not that I have anything against Emma-Nnopu it’s just that we had trouble scoring against good teams last year.  And if the three wasn’t falling then it was Jones or Brink going against multiple defenders who were sagging off Wilson and Lacie.  Also the reason I think perimeter defense is less important is because we have 2 amazing shot blockers who can clean up defensive mistakes in Brink and Betts.  So if say someone gets a step on one of our perimeter defenders we still have a great back line and Brink doesn’t have to worry as much about fouls because we still have Betts.

I'm kind of salivating on 6'7 BETTS and 6'4 BRINK playing at the same time for two seasons - that's two supreme shot blockers with BETTS manning the area around the basket and BRINK defending around the immediate perimeter, plus high post passing on offense between the two, especially now that BETTS is showing some midrange capabilities and we know that BRINK has a great mdirange shot and can also deliver from beyond the arc

I seem to remember an old story about Da Bears changing to unis with larger numbers and Butkus keeping the old-style smaller numbers so that he would look bigger in contrast.  What a beast he was!
