Oh, and the 1st- and 2nd-team all Ivy teams are loaded with seniors. Ivies don't do 5th years, so they all enter the portal. Last year's Harvard 1st-team all-Ivy DL tandem started for UCLA and ND. Two 1st-team all Ivy OL started for Penn State and UNC. This is the biggest no-brainer EVER.
I will once again be compiling a list this year, but all across the board because f*** it. It should be noted that multiple grad transfers in the portal are already being followed by staff. (This has NEVER happened before.)
The portal opens Dec. 5, but I assume you are referring to players who have indicated their intention to enter the portal (or ivy leaguers).

This is the Niche ranking of colleges. 1.) MIT 2.) Stanford 3.) Harvard
There are over 1,000 reviews of Stanford by students and alums. Stanford gets 4 out 5 stars for campus life which is the same as all the other top schools. I'm aware it's fashionable among a handful of students to say Stanford hates fun. I suspect they are in the absolute minority. Each year Stanford sets records for number of student applications. Something must be going ok.
WVB is the one sport I know about. There have been two students in WVB program history who left Stanford before getting their degree. One was a student from Michigan twenty five years ago who got homesick freshman year. She came back later in life to get a Masters from Stanford. The other was Logan Tom who left to play on the Olympic team and then professionally. She came back later in life to finish her degree.
All I hope is any fundamental changes to admissions be considered thoroughly and not be a knee-jerk reaction. There are too many good things happening on the Farm to screw things up. Admittedly this is the viewpoint of someone who enjoys football but is not a die-hard Stanford football fan.
One final random thought although it's not relevant today. I recall some time ago there was a year when no transfer students were admitted. Typically transfers were mainly admitted to fill out the diversity of a class depending on how many openings were available.
In the early 90s the Stanford experience was a lot more fun than the other elite schools. Today I am not so sure that is the case.
I don't think anyone is proposing fundamentally altering the academic standards. But there is no reason we can't admit highly qualified transfer students....

Grad transfers can enter the portal at any time.

Interesting web site. When I was a pup, Cal / Berkeley and USC led the state in passing the CPA exam, out of about 24 schools that offered some form of public accountancy. SCU was #3. Hofstra used to have the best accounting program in the country.
In this rating, USC is #2 in the country (well-deserved), SCU is #38 (sounds about right), Berkeley (which only offers a certificate in accounting, but has a legendarily challenging accounting program) isn't listed and Hofstra is listed as #136. How the mighty have fallen.

Here's a novel thought - bringing in more talent via the transfer portal won't really do much to move the needle unless there are major changes in the coaching staff. It's pretty clear that the program has a MAJOR player development problem. So we just bring in even more new players for our weak coaching staff to fail to develop?
Don't get me wrong - we need a better plan for the portal and NIL. But a) we don't have a plan for either yet, just talk about having a plan, and b) that plan isn't going to have a big impact without better coaches.

Correct. Until the coaching improves, the quality and number of the players do not move the needle. The current coaching staff has managed to make 4-star players perform like 3-star players; and the team as a whole is inevitably less than the sum of the parts.
How to use the portal and NIL to our advantage will be vital. But even a winning approach in this area will bear no fruit if we have the same subpar coaches in place.

Wonder if Fizz might go flat pretty quickly with the problems they've had with security. . .

Oh, so we're doing this? Okay, I'll play.
After dealing with a massive security vulnerability, Fizz's young co-founders remained effervescent about their prospects. Still, one wonders whether the app's rapid growth might cause it to go plop, plop.

You were right, they changed the rule a couple of months ago:

Are any of our future grad students in the portal? I assume that before the last game, nobody is going to put their name in unless they are absolutely beyond caring. Why burn bridges?

I don’t think Harris can be in the portal until Dec. 5, since he is not a graduate transfer. It’s a fait accompli that he will be (which may be why 247 listed him), and he said he is transferring out, but the portal doesn’t open for undergraduate transfers until the playoff teams are announced.

That's correct - Harris WILL BE in the portal, but technically wasn't allowed to be yet when he announced. Some miscommunication between him and compliance.
Umerah medically retired. If he's able to somehow finesse a scholarship to get a Masters paid for elsewhere despite being medically unfit (or at best, debatably medically fit) to play, I'd respect the hell out of the hustle.

In limited play it looked like Umeroh had a motor. Bailey and Cooper look like they have one too.
Thinking hard, maybe Moi. Anybody else?
I know nothing about Bailey except that he was Mater Dei. Would he jump to SC?

Actually I read an article in which Bailey said one of the big reasons he came to Stanford was that he was very impressed with Shaw. So perhaps the chances of him jumping to SC are greater if Shaw is dismissed than if he isn't.

Yeah, I wouldn’t put too much stock either way. Nobody is going to badmouth the coach they just committed to. That doesn’t mean he will necessarily sour on the coach, but it also doesn’t mean Bailey feels the same now as he did a year ago.
