Go Card! Beat the Weenies!

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - mbdude - 01-08-2023

So the only person who will shoot is cameron

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - martyup - 01-08-2023

Tied with 1:25 to play.

2 point lead with :37 to play.  Our ball after a timeout.  We need to score here badly.

We had no good play coming out of the timeout and Cal has the ball with 25 seconds to play.  Jump got butchered on the rebound.

Cal misses open shot and Cam is fouled on the rebound.  Stanford ball.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - mbdude - 01-08-2023

Think we got a gift on foul call

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - TonyLima - 01-08-2023

Can anyone explain to me why Demetre is playing right now?

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - Madera86 - 01-08-2023

Because she hit two of two. Death blow!

She just sunk two free throws to put us up by 4 with 5.4 to play.

We win, barely.

Just having another ball handler. With the lead, we just need to secure the ball and prevent any turnovers.

OK, I take it back.

Phew. Silly Weenies, trying to take what's ours.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - M T - 01-08-2023

That's PAC-12 WBB.  Whew!

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - martyup - 01-08-2023

We won a game after only shooting 32.3 percent (20-62).

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - TonyLima - 01-08-2023

I’m too old for this.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - TheWildJacko - 01-08-2023

At the end of the game, Brooke’s 2 pts, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal (no turnovers, no fouls) look pretty good.

The steal and the 2 points (obviously) were both at crucial end-of-game moments.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - martyup - 01-08-2023

We were 4-20 from 3, but Jump only shot 4 of the 20.  She made 2.  We need to find a way to get her open.

BTW, I thought Agnes was a pretty good 3 point shooter.  They left here open from the arc but she only pulled the trigger once and missed.  I thought she should have taken those shots.

Agree. I was wrong.

Nnopu is not a good shooter,  3s  or other. 29 %
Take away the 5 3s Demetre made in 1 game and she is 9 of 42 on 3s.
Then add Haley. So there was no threat from perimeter

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - M T - 01-08-2023

We had 20 3FGA but hit only 4.  The problem is who took them and when.  Jump hit 2 of 4.  Stanford needs to find a way to get her shots.

Demetre (0/3) may be good in practice but she's apparently not comfortable in a game.
Prechtel (0/3) seems to need  to be unguarded.
Brink (1/4), in this kind of game, should be close to the basket and only shoot 3s if absolutely necessary.
Lepolo (1/4) also should shoot them only if absolutely necessary.

Cal couldn't stop Brink if she got the ball in close, but we couldn't get her the ball as often as we should.
Jones may make miracle shots, but she only had 3FG in the game.

Kudos on our 16/19 FT shooting:  Jones 6/6.  Brink 6/7.  Demetre 2/2 at a critical juncture.

I think a bunch of us were! I didn’t want her in the game either.

And yet, if Brink doesn’t hit that 3 we probably lose. If Lepolo doesn’t hit that 3 we probably lose. So, ultimately, not bad shots.

It’s weird how much we seem to be struggling with outside shots lately. I’m looking at our overall stats and they aren’t great, probably worse after this game. Earlier in the season we had several people shooting over 40%. Schedule getting tougher I guess…?

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Cal Sunday 4pm - chimera - 01-08-2023

I did not see any except some of the last quarter, just stats before that (busy day).  I always felt that watching games at Cal felt like I was looking through a slight haze.  Maybe our players felt the same.  Just a brutally bad shooting day.  Can't shoot much worse.  Still won, so just breathe a sigh of relief and fix what did not work.  Kudos to Brink for fabulous second half.  Demetre played good defense and got a key steal late, plus those FTs, and she also had a few assists so she contributed despite her shooting woes.

Maybe some of the issue was this was the first road game in a long while and since we beat cal pretty handily at Maples, perhaps the intensity was not quite there.  Might help us overall if cal can play tough against our common opponents coming up.  Can't focus on us too much if cal is a threat.
