Also learned that Rose Zhang's opening round 66 was a new ANWA record low round. Is anyone surprised?

The women's team is done in Hawaii

So of course she followed it up with a 65 today. She's 5 ahead of the field. Final round is at Augusta on Saturday (tomorrow is a closed practice day). She's slipping though: got her first bogey today (but compensated with an eagle).

Megha Ganne finished T9 at -1.

Unfortunately Brooke Seay finished at +15, next to last, with only one birdie over the 2 rounds. Missed the cut and will not play at Augusta. Obviously needs more time to recover her game.

Just happy to see Seay back playing competitive golf. We are gonna need her for any kind of serious run at another natty.

Rose Zhang is just on a different level than everyone else in amateur golf. You never know but I don't see anyone catching her on Saturday. She's now played several rounds at Augusta. I'm gonna enjoy her last couple months of Cardinal golf. I no longer have any doubt she's turning pro this summer.

The golf went off air at 1 or so and we couldn't find it again. Zang had about 3 holes to go. Did any station pick it up? Btw, she may have the prettiest swing in golf.

They pushed it to the Golf Channel.   Lots of clips on Twitter and Youtube, so possible to see many of the significant shots.

Only two players have ever won the women's USGA Junior, USGA Amateur, and NCAA Individual championships - Rose Zhang & Pat Hurst (SJSU). Now add in ANWA and you have the Grand Slam of women's amateur golf and Zhang is the only player with that distinction

Stanford plays its final tournament before P12s on Monday and Tuesday at the Silicon Valley Showcase at Green Hills in Millbrae. 36 holes on Monday, 18 more on Tuesday. Only 9 teams competing. Stanford is the only ranked team.

The lineup will be Zhang, Englemann, Ganne, Xu and Ye. Sturdza, Lu and Becht will compete as individuals. Brooke Seay is nowhere to be seen. I can only assume that means Coach Walker thinks Seay is not ready for competition even as an individual . The P12 tournament begins a week from Monday. Will we see Seay at all this season playing for Stanford?

Yikes. Thought we would see Seay for sure. An event like this would be the perfect place for her to get her tournament wheels back on, even if just playing as an individual. This might be the team's lineup for the rest of the season. If so, they won't be the favorites to win.

I've only played Green Hills once - as one of my regular playing partners says, "It's a windmill short of being a very good mini-golf course."

Maybe her coach thought the time she would have spent in the tournament would be better spent working out the kinks on the range at Stanford with a coach.  Hard to fix game issues playing in a tournament.  We do need her and her non-appearance is probably in her best interest if she doesn't have physical issues that can't be fixed right away.

Stanford leads #25 Pepperdine by 3 shots after the 1st round of the Silicon Valley Showcase. 3rd place Gonzaga is 19 shots behind Stanford so this is really a 2 team tournament.

Kelly Xu led Stanford with a 3 under par 68 highlighted by a hole in one on the 15th hole! Sadie Englemann was Steady Sadie and is right behind at -2. Augusta National Women's Amateur champ Rose Zhang birdied 2 of her final 4 holes to get to -1. Angelina Ye finished at even par. Megha Ganne had the drop score. She shot +3, 74.

The team is back on the course for Round 2 this afternoon.

Stanford's lead has shrunk to 1 shot over Pepperdine after 36 holes. Surprisingly, Stanford is being led by Sadie Englemann and Kelly Xu. Maybe Rose Zhang and Megha Ganne are still recovering from an exhausting experience at Augusta. Their games were not sharp today.

The staff at Women's golf have apparently not heard of Tom Watson, he rightly deserves his name next to Tiger's.  He won the Masters twice.

I suspect the staff at Women's golf would have been very happy to repackage and send out Watson's congratulatory tweet as well, if he had sent one.

Stanford finished the Silicon Valley Showcase tied for 1st with Pepperdine. Conditions must have been very tough. The scoring average was 78.47, nearly 7.5 shots over par. Stanford and Pepperdine were the only teams to break 300 in the final round.

But despite struggling all day and trailing Pepperdine with 3 holes to play, Stanford had opened a 3 shot lead thanks to late birdies (hard to come by all day) from Xu, Englemann and Ganne. However, they gave it all back when Ganne bogeyed her final hole and Xu double bogeyed her final hole. Xu's double bogey also cost her the individual championship. She had a one shot lead going into the hole. Rose Zhang played the entire round without a birdie. I wonder when that last happened.

Final round results and placing:
Xu - 75 (T2)
Englemann - 76 (T2)
Zhang - 73 (5)
Ye - 77 (13)
Ganne - 75 (T20)

Now the team has a very quick turnaround to prepare for the P12 championship which begins next Monday at Papago Park in Phoenix. At least the weather should be better! I think Coach Walker would have preferred to have played the final pre-P12 tournament a week or two ago to have allowed more time to fine tune swings, work on short games, rest and finalize the 5 player line up. But the schedule did not allow for that because of the number of golfers playing at the Augusta National Women's Amateur. If Stanford had not played in the Silicon Valley Showcase, its last tournament before the P12s would have been at the Meadow Club almost 6 weeks prior (where Stanford beat Pepperdine by 20 shots). Notably, there were no other P12 teams playing at the Silicon Valley Showcase.

P12 results are not necessarily indicative of post season results however. Stanford last won the P12 tournament in 2014, the year before they won their 1st NC.

Aline Krauter makes the cut (+2) at Lotte Championship in Hawaii. She was at +3 with 2 holes to play, birdied final 2 holes

Quick turnaround for the Cardinal golfers. After finishing the 54 hole Silicon Valley Showcase this past Tuesday, Stanford tees it up in the P12 Championship on Monday at Papago GC in Phoenix. The lineup will be the same as for the Silicon Valley Showcase - Zhang, Ganne, Englemann, Xu and Ye. Caroline Sturdza will be the alternate. Once again, no Brooke Seay. Stanford begins play at 8:50 am PDT on Monday.
