RE: Class of 2025 - washingtonismoney - 04-27-2024

Commitment from 3-star TE Zach Giuliano who flipped from Northwestern: https://twitter.com/channeltree/status/1784323350099378263

Seems like he has a solid offer list but I guess as ever from the Taylor era, would love to see some more premium and blue-chip recruits here.

EDIT: 247's Greg Biggins writes, of Giuliano:

"Giuliano is a player we think is only scratching the surface of how good we think he can be. He's a former basketball player who just started playing football as a sophomore so his upside is very high.

He has a long, projectable, 6-6, 230-pound frame, is a fluid athlete who runs well, can high point the football and shows natural hands. He can make plays down the field in the passing game and is an improving blocker as well.

He played his junior year with a lot more physicality and toughness at the point of attack and was putting guys on their backs in the run game."

Gabe Kaminski is more what I'm talking about. Four star on 247's composite, with offers (apparently) from many power schools, inter alia ND, SC, Michigan, and Oklahoma.

RE: Class of 2025 - Jamesy - 06-02-2024

Seems to be a lot of buzz on X about several commits from this weekend's visits. Any word on who those might be?

Hmmm...if his father (or grandfather) is Ed, then he's the son (grandson) of my HS soccer teammate. Ed had George Michael hair back then. Looking at a photo of Gabe, I don't eliminate the possibility.

Kole Briehler, a d-lineman, out of the Hun School in New Jersey (https://x.com/briehler/status/1798388005851615648). A consensus top-500 player nationwide in 247, offers from many of the big boy schools (your Michigans, Ohios State, SCs, etc.)

And Emeka Ugorji, a offensive lineman from TX (https://x.com/emekaugorji71/status/1798077943832572300), who is at the moment more modestly rated and has a more regional recruiting profile.

I don't think he's anywhere near committing, but the official visitor to watch is OT Josh Petty, who is the #32 player in the nation per 247's consensus. Apparently has put Stanford in his top 5.

The real official visitor to watch is 5 star OT Andrew Babalola who we have received crystal balls for on On3.

RE: Class of 2025 - SkiBum80 - 06-06-2024

Seems to me like Coach TT & Co have continued recruiting well, as they did right from the start when handed a depleted and disappearing roster.
Checking latest 247Sports rankings for 2025 class has our Cardinal as 3rd best in the ACC of 17.
Granted we may not end up that high.
But still, I find this most impressive and a continued sign of confidence that Coach & Co are truly on a promising and hopeful rebuilding path.

RE: Class of 2025 - CardInDSM - 06-07-2024

If TT can reel in Babalola and Petty —and he's currently the odds-on favorite to do so— we're not just gonna be talking about a top 3 ACC recruiting class. We're going to be talking about a top 10 class nationally.

Wouldn't be top 10 (maybe top 20) by end of cycle, but would still be awesome of course.

Your post piqued my interest on what the "floor" would be for a class with two 5-star commits. And you're pretty spot on, but maybe slightly underselling where we would be. Over the past 10 years having two 5-star guys is a pretty good guarantee of a top 15 class and very solid shot for a top 10 class. But there are a couple of aberrations where you'll see a #20 - #22 finish.

Speaking of aberrations, Stanford's 2017 class with three different 5-stars finished really "low" at #14 overall. But only 14 total players committed in that class.

RE: Class of 2025 - needle - 06-07-2024

Complete list of speculative rankings that actually matter:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Stanford_Cardinal_in_the_NFL_draft

From the list above, Stanford from 2012-16 had an average of 1.4 offensive linemen drafted yearly.

Names and HS ratings (Rivals)

David DeCastro - 3 stars
Jonathan Martin - 3 stars
Cam Fleming - 3 stars
David Yankey - 3 stars
Andrus Peat - 5 stars
Joshua Garnett - 4 stars
Kyle Murphy - 5 stars

2011-15 Stanford conference wins per year:  8, 8, 7, 5, 8

+++

From 2017-23, Stanford has averaged 0.3 offensive linemen drafted each year.

Walker Little - 5 stars
Drew Dalman - 3 stars

Stanford conference wins per year, 2016-23:

6, 7, 6, 3, 4*, 2, 1, 2

*covid

(Also: probably worth noting that in 2016-17 Stanford had two all-timers as running backs, McCaffrey and pre-injury Love.)

+++

Anyway, my point: If you want to judge the likelihood of Stanford returning to something approaching its best, look no further than the offensive line talent. But high school ratings aren't that great in determining whether an OL will make it to the NFL, which imo is the ultimate assessment of how well you are recruiting linemen.

That said, if TT does get a 5-star lineman (or two!) to sign, it will be the first time he's exceeded anything done by post-2018 Shaw, imo.

RE: Class of 2025 - washingtonismoney - 06-07-2024

Another couple of commits:

Landon McComber, a linebacker from Bishop Gorman (https://x.com/LandonMccomber/status/1799200375670772168). 247 has him as roughly a top 500 player; insofar as you put stock in offers, you probably like his: Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, much of the former Pac-12.

I don't think anyone previously mentioned defensive lineman Adam Shovlin, from CT, also a top-500 player per 247, apparently offers from Michigan and SC, plus many of the Northeastern schools.

RE: Class of 2025 - GK3 - 06-27-2024

I hope we are smart enough to think about looking internationally.  The USA just got it rear end kicked.  Austria vs Canada for the Championship.
Somewhere in one of those countries are a few players we might be able to recruit.  We ought to at least look.

RE: Class of 2025 - washingtonismoney - 06-28-2024

Indiana wideout JonAnthony Hall is committing in about an hour -- some possibility he'll go Stanford. Some sites have him as an extremely blue blue-chipper...other sites are meh. N.D. and other elite midwestern offers.

RE: Class of 2025 - washingtonismoney - 06-28-2024

Hall commits to Stanford: https://twitter.com/JonAnthony_Hall/status/1806720414883655765

Depending on how literally you take recruiting rankings, it's one of the best gets of the Taylor era.

Vanderbilt and Northwestern both offered, so i'm not worried about admissions.

We had multiple admissions casualties last year who had offers from Vandy, Northwestern, and Duke.
