Not looking good in the doubles matches:

Ma/Xu about to be blown off the court: down 1-5 with NC State serving for the match
Blake/Bokhina also down 2-5
Lone bright spot is Choy/Yepifaniova up a break 4-3

Pretty windy conditions in Orlando, but all 3 NC State teams look very aggressive; it looks like we might have to pick up 4 of the 6 singles matches to win today

UPDATE:

Blake/Bokhina lose 3-6, but Choy/Yepifanova win 6-3

Ma/Xu also lose 2-6

So, the doubles point goes to NC State and we'll have to win this the hard way, 4 of the 6 singles matches

A singles update (not looking good):

#1: Yepifanova was demolished 1-6, 0-6
#2: Smith (NC State) takes a tight first set 7-5 against Ma
#3: Blake edges out the tiebreak 7 points to 5 and takes the first set, after blowing a big lead early on
#4: With a blistering backhand winner down the line, Blokhina takes the deciding point serving for the set and takes a one set lead
#5: Xu took the first set 6-3 and on serve early in the second
#6: Choy dropped the first 3-6, but is up two breaks 3-0 in the second

NC State leads 2-0 and thus we have to win 4 of the remaining 5 matches to pull this one out (and we are down a set on two of them)

On #2, Smith broke Ma's first service game in the second and is now up a set and a break
On #5, Xu is now down a break in the second (though up a set)
On #6, Choy gave back both breaks and the second set is tied at 3-3 all.

And we got swept 4-0

Smith defeated Ma despite Connie coming back in the second 5-7, 5-7

Dittman defeated Choy also in straight sets

Did not expect to be swept. Thought it would be closer and we would have enough to win, but NCST proved too tough.

quick update on the singles and doubles competition:

in singles, Angelica Blake beat a seeded player from LSU in her first match and made a run to the quarterfinals where she lost to a player from Oklahoma.
Yepifanova won her first two matches and lost in the round of 16 to a UCLA player (Tian) who made it to the semifinals (to be played Friday).
In doubles, Blake/Blokhina lost their first-round match to NC State's #2 doubles team, a seeded team that Choy/Yepifanova had beaten in the team competition.
And that closes out our season.

I'm sorry to report that U$C has a player in the individual semis and a team in the doubles semis, both to be played Friday.
