I watched the Ogwumikes and Karlie play for the Sparks last night, who prevailed narrowly in overtime. Good for them!
However, I was left pretty uninspired about the professional game. So what if my college team's former teammates prevailed? I do hate LA, after all, and could not care one whet about which professional team wins in the end.
Good job, former Stanford collegiate WBB players! I will try to watch you again in a year or two.

Sparks sign Karlie to WNBA contract for FULL SEASON. It didn’t hurt that she is the #2 3-pt shooter in the league. Great news and the product of incredible hard work and determination.

Loved watching the LA vs. Chicago game last night.
Alanna Smith is perhaps an early candidate for most improved. From riding the bench in Phoenix to now the starting PF for Chicago, she led the team with 19 points last night and really showed great confidence, finishing ability, leadership too.
Nneka had 19, too, to lead the Sparks. Great look for Stanford.
Jordin Canada (UCLA) has come along nicely, too, with 16 points for the Sparks. Karlie hit a few buckets, with 7 points.
Meanwhile, Haley Jones had 7 points (including a 3) and 5 assists in an Atlanta loss to NY.
And Lexie had 0 points on 0-5 shooting in an Indiana loss.......

Interesting tidbit in Michelle Smith's piece arguing for WNBA expansion to Oakland:

It says Warriors owner Joe Lacob is a season ticket holder for Stanford WBB. Anyone ever see him? I haven't. It could just be that I've never seen him, or he could be one of those who has tickets and never shows up.

Karlie remains one of 2 WNBA players to maintain the 50-40-90 level (fg%, 3ptfg%, FT%)
Karlie 50.9 fg%, 47.1 3pt% and 95% FT%
The other player is Chelsea Gray 51.6 fg% 51.2 3pt% and 92.3 FT%
Note there is a 3rd player, but she has taken only 2 3pt shots and made one, in 9 games. Gray has taken 41 3pt shots and Karlie 34. I would think you need to average at least one shot a game to be considered.

She was in a nasty situation. She dealt as well as could be expected last season. And she likely dealt as well as anyone could with the strong personalities in that organization. Taurasi runs the show, and when she can't produce like she could when she was younger (or, heck, even *play*), that does not put another notch in the W column. Run, Va, Run! Get out of AZ as fast as you can!

I hope she gets to see Girma (et al.) play in the World Cup! I saw Prechtel at one of the Stanford soccer games a couple years ago.
